UMD advertisements

Just caught my first TV advertisement (UK) for a film on UMD. Duke's of Hazzard (looks like a dire film adaptation, like usual) 'now available on DVD and UMD'. I guess this signifies UMD is a noteworthy format. Very surprising considering there's ony one player. Has anyone caught TV ads for UMD films elsewhere?

I think every sony release says 'now available in DVD and UMD'. I still think they need to significantly reduce the price before I would consider paying for one.

Yes, I've seen such as. Sin City, for example, advertises its release on DVD and UMD (the first edition, not the Recut & Extended version).

I still think they should have packed in the UMD version of a movie with the "Director's Cut". Then people would have a small library of them and might want to get a PSP, which then might convince them to buy UMD versions of the movie after the promotional period ends.

I don't think that would work, they'd just wind up on ebay cutting in to retail sales. Even if I were a psp owner I can't see paying for a UMD when for the same money I can get the higher quality, more content DVD version. UMD's should be about half the price of DVD's imo.

UMDs are for convenience, and its obvious a lot of people like that. They're certainly not sales slouches.

No, I meant to catapult UMD/PSP adoption, studios should have simply packed in UMDs. During this promotional period, they wouldn't have sold any separately. The price of the UMDs would simply be subsidized a bit by the adoption of the director's cut for DVD movies - which many people will buy due to their collector mentality anyhow.

What I meant was that the UMD in the box would wind up on ebay. I'd certainly use it to subsidize my purchase of the DVD, but it wouldn't convince me to purchase a psp.

OIC. Fair enough, eBay certainly is pervasive - I don't know how many would sell off the UMDs but point taken.

Yeah I think it was funny when they use to say available on PSP instead of UMD. They also show what the PSP looks like too. Smart move.

Not many I'd wager. Most people simply aren't that technology-minded, nor that entrepreneurish. Flogging off that free extra UMD on ebay simply wouldn't be the first thought that entered their mind upon buying such a movie.

That's my thought too, that it would be more of a niche enterprise than anything else - but as always, this is just my opinion.
