TWW most preordered game in history

Similarly, if MGS2 came with a ported MGS1, it would have had a buttload more pre-orders as well

You already said that and that's what I was replying to.

You were saying that Zelda had a free disk and that helped it get more pre-orders then it would have without the free disc. If MGS2 had that disk it would have gotten more pre-orders.

I was saying that you could also similarly say that MGS2 had a bigger potential user base then Zelda and that helped it get more pre-orders then it would have gotten without that userbase advantage. If Zelda had that potential user base it would have gotten even more pre-orders then it did.

I was basically just saying that, while your correct, there are ifs and buts on both sides.

Love the logic around here
Zelda selling because of a free 6 year old game makes its not count...
But Xbox passing GC in sales because of $100 knocked off the price and two free games counts just fine.

If you read my posts a little more clearly, you'd see that I felt that OoT would have little impact on the overall sales, but was a HUGE incentive to pre-order.

CaptainHowdy, that is true but we are NOT bashing nintendo for this move it is a very smart move to do. We are just saying that, that is the reason why it is pre-ordering so much, just like Ms's xbox price cuts, it is the reason why it it selling so much and was a very good move.

That's EXACTLY why I pre-ordered WW.

Johnny: Me too.

While the game obviously won't bump GCN to 2nd place in the US, it might at least bump GCN a little closer to Xbox.

I'm pretty used to seeing GCN in 3rd place, though.. and I'm fine with it. I got the console to enjoy Nintendo's games with a few dozen excellent 3rd-party offerings thrown in every year. So far, so good.

the MGS preorder numbers are worldwide, the GTA:VC numbers? well, they were just a flat out lie, being Vice City has only sold a little over 4 million since launch.

Lies,eh?

http://money.cnn.com/2003/02/27/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/index.htm

The exceedingly popular (and controversial) "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" has sold more than 8.5 million copies worldwide since its late October debut. Those sales, according to the company, made up 68 percent of Take Two's first quarter revenue of $408.8 million.

AFAICS, WC3 didn't get more pre-orders than Zelda:TWW.

You're wrong. I don't have the link, but I recall Warcraft 3 having more than a million customer pre-orders before launch. There were over 4.5 million store pre-orders in the same time period.

I have a hard time believing that TWW is "the most pre-ordered game of all time". I'm sure it's the most pre-ordered for Gamecube. But considering the tiny numbers of GC gamers compared to PC or PS2... I just can't believe that any GC game would be the most pre-ordered.

On second glance, I don't actually see anyone (other than PlanetGamecube) claiming that TWW is the most pre-ordered game in history. It's "Nintendo's most successful" pre-order, and "EB's most pre-ordered", but that says nothing about other retailers. After all, as long as you only focus on one specific vendor, you could probably show that the Xbox is selling more than PS2 or something crazy like that.

My buddy works at gamestop near me (I used to work there) He says there are more preorders right now in his store and his general area (30 stores) for zelda and it has had more preorders than anything yest including the last wrestling game for the n64 which was the top one till now .

Well you can add me to the list of lucky people who pre-ordered and got OOT and Master's Quest. I got my copy last Friday. Seeing as I never got a chance to play it on the N64 (OOT that is, obviously not MQ), I couldn't pass this chance up.

Now all I need to do is go back and buy all the other GC games I've been meaning to get. Metroid, Eternal Darkness, SMS, etc etc etc......

Overclocked: Outside of a doubled resolution, nope. BTW, you never played a Zelda game before?

Let's just say that Zelda is a piece to the puzzle of why there are so many Nintendo advocates. :)

I'm sure you'll enjoy OOT/TWW.

Quadrupled resolution (320x240 -> 640x480) and no AA.

Also seems like on GCN it's locked at 30fps while on the N64 it was unstable but capped at 60.

I think the N64 version looks better...

Also has anyone else noticed that the game's resolution plummets when the menus load? Looks like it goes to 320x240x8...

Tag: Quadrupled? I thought that both versions used FSAA.. (or just edge AA) Could ya explain?

GCN's version seems to be locked at the N64's framerate of around 15-20fps actually.. and I'd tend to disagree with ya about the N64 version looking better. :) IMO, the added clarity of the GCN version helps it to beat the original.

BTW, I thought that the menu "effect" you mentioned was supposed to be there.

Ty: D'oh!

Heh, yeah.. that makes sense. I'm surprised I missed that.. math is my best subject. Ehhhh..

For the most part, GC version's framerate is clearly lower than 30 fps, and if I'm prety sure that the N64 version nerver reached 60 fps, even staring to an empty wall, or in the prerendered section.
