Tomb Raider: Underworld

[strike]Cleaning the thread you mongrels![/strike]

As patsu mentioned, the comment on Uncharted was just a casual reference, and Tap In's later post clarified what he meant. At any rate, the comparisons to other games should end for now because the game isn't even out yet! Furthermore, please keep the whole platform wars out of these forums. It's bad enough when folks start hurling comments out of the blu and go off-topic. If there is evidence of some multiplatform issue, mention it in the Multiplatform thread. This is the Games forum.

Kraken are a "made-up" creature (or a name for the spying of a big sea creature), which can either be a squid OR octopus. Sometimes it's refered to as the Krakan Octopus, but it's also said that if there was a spying of a "Kraken", it was most likely a giant squid.

ShootMyMonkey must tell me what it's meant to be

I referred to it as a "kraken" because it is meant to be a kraken on the basis that a kraken actually is a unique species. The storyline is anyway full of myths and legends and made-up things, after all, so why not a mythical beast?

It's certainly bulbous like an octopus, but it has two siphons... it's certainly larger than any giant squid, for that matter. The folks on Tombraiderforums have developed such an affixation with the kraken that they've affectionately named it "Underpus."

Your artists definately designed an Octopus.:p

Gamersyde Footage

To cut the long story short, the game seems to deliver on its promise by offering long sequences based on exploration and platforming. To me, the game is going to be closer to Anniversary than Legend in that area, at least in the level I had a chance to play yesterday.

Technically speaking, the game is solid. The environments are big and very detailed, Lara's animations have gotten more natural than before - though it's still close to Lara's original style - and the graphics are just beautiful.

The build I played must have been a bit old though since there were a few issues with the camera and some glitches once in a while but from what I saw, the game is shaping up well and I'm sure all the fans will be happy to jump in as soon as the game is released.

I wouldn't say the build is old per se, but that there are still a lot of content issues. The camera for instance got a major rewrite pretty recently, but the new system requires a fair bit of markup and targeting to be setup throughout a given level, so there's a great deal of incompleteness there.

Similarly, a lot of the glitches you'll see in the video have a lot more to do with content.

That jungle level is beautiful and it reminds me of TR2 with the tigers. Anybody know if the developers have added the handstand move from the first TR? I really hope the developers have added beautiful underwater levels especially cyrstal clear type water ponds.

I take it you don't generally look back through previous pages in a thread when you enter?

Although I've not played any of the previous versions, I'm going to buy this game for the simple reason that SMM has made such excellent contributions to this forum. He has openly and honestly discussed various aspects of game development and the industry in general. And he has some funny stories about dinosaurs and chrome.

Is the swimming animation (the speed she swims at) going to receive some more attention too?
