Gran Turismo 4 to feature over 2,000 cars and 100 tracks!

"The real driving simulator seres has always offered the most comprehensive range of real cars - GT3 amassing over 500 - but that figure looks to be eclipsed by the sequel, which offers a staggering 2,000 real motors. This time around, we can expect to see a large number of convertibles, too - everything from a second hand Mazda MX-5 to a brand new Honda S2000 - all with accurately modelled drivers behind the wheel!

In line with the huge selection of cars, the track count has also been increased to over 100 circuits before any talk of reverse laps. Other features include online play, with players now able to talk to competitors using the telesales headset and, more importantly, compete online against eight rival drivers while gambling away a selection of prized supercars. The possibility of trading mufflers, body kits and racing chips over the net could cause car fans to behave like frenzied playground Pokemon traders.

But perhaps the most ambitious (and judging by your letters and emails, also the most sought after) feature that developer Polyphony is hoping to include is real damage effects for each car, which should mean no more bouncing off boundry walls like a rubber clad Robin Reliant. More details on this very soon."

Huge news for gamers awaiting the 4th installment in the greatest driving simulator of all time. Over 2,000 cars and 100 tracks pretty much makes it a knock as greatest game ever imho, and I'm sure most PS2 owners agree. Expect news on GT4 anytime something breaks.

Late arils fool or just a bad hoax? As a 3D artist, I know how much work this kind of detail as seen in GT3 needs, so I just can't believe this right now, but I sure hope it's true. ;)

That's exactly what I thought when reading this over at a PS2 site. Especially since GT3 never had 500 cars, not even close. It was more like 160.. :D

It still would be nice though, but it's very unlikely...

I just quote this from a google search:

This resulted in many delays in the game over the past ... cars has been drastically cut
down to around 185 cars. ... is down from GT2's which I believe had around 450

And of course you can add the concept cars to those 185, then you maybe have around 220.

This is a little off topic, but I want a sport compact racing game where you race people for money in you official Honda, toyota, Focus, or whatever car and then use the money to buy licensed parts from AEM, DC Sports and the like to make your car faster, better handling, better braking, body kits and what have you, I think that Polyphony could pull it off, especially since they have the money to do it. I would buy a PS2 just to have that game.

Well, they got the models from GT3, they got the people who modelled those. GT3 was realeased quit some time ago, I bet they never stopped modelling those cars and after the huge success of GT3, they maybe even stocked up their staff head count. Also possible, they got more support from car manufacturers in form of CAD files. Bottom line IMO those specs are very do-able. This E3 will be like a videogame apocalypse now.

What if they started with GT4 before GT3 (or at the same time)
It could be true... but I doub that because there's a rumoured car damage on each car.

IGN sayza that is GT4 engine. ... .

Thats GT4 work-in-progress PHYSICS ENGINE.

I believe the Lupo graphics engine is still GT3 A-Spec (or the slightly improved GT Concept engine).

The quality of that screenshot is quite bad (taken with low quality cam, lower resolution than what you'd see live, selected uninteresting and simple scenery...).
If that represented what GT4 will look like, it would be a step backwards.

Anyone remember those 'screenshots' posted in some forums prior GT3-A Spec launch: Some of the shots were from a tiny portion of the screen, magnified, and then demonstrated as 'how ugly GT3 will look'

Do not believe what IGN sayza!
