The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt ! [XO, PS4, NX, PS5, XBSX|S, PC]

Anyone interested in the books should read stories first, as they set background for the saga. First part "Last wish" is availabe and second part "Sword of destiny" is due to be relased in May this year by Gollancz. Then there is the saga, which except for the last parts has been released in english, but there is a fan translation of missing parts. And then there "Season of storms" which has been released fairy recently and takes place somewhere between the short stories. I recommend to read it last, only if you finished saga and still want more

and the fact that the books not availabble officially are avaialable as fan translations and they are damn good translations. Read them.

I felt sorry for her by the end when a tear rolled down her face. Was she just trying to live normally?
No, realisation had just hit her that her life of spending her boyfriend's hard earned cash on bags and shoes was over.

Nope ! No one would take the contract before cos its too deadly. The Witcher is unmatched for her , as can be seen in the video, and stands no chance against her, but now that Witchers and monsters both are dying out, the times are desperate and Geralt has taken a bounty for a suicide mission considering the odds. The only way he could kill her was by poisoning his own blood. No way he could have won a fair fight.

That's how I interpreted it. Some witchers don't take dangerous contracts, when Geralt arrives at Wyzim in The Last Wish, he discovers another witcher had considered the contract, seen the 'monster' then gone 'nope' :nope: and left.

I was curious about the potion though, I assumed he'd just downed cat because of his eyes and the lack of light but I wonder if he ingested silver instead.

Geralt, however, has killed vampires in the past. So, he wouldn't have hesitated to take a vampire contract in the past if he felt the vampire deserved it. Hence, the fact that he took this particular one and mentions how in the past he wouldn't have taken the contract for her, implies, to my mind, that he doesn't think she's been a threat to the humans in the area.

He's also had vampire companions in the past, so he has no ill will towards vampires that don't pose a threat to humanity. Hence his apparent sorrow and regret at having to take the contract on the vampire in the CGI trailer. If she had been a threat, he would have felt no sorrow or remorse at taking the contract and taking her life.

Regards,
SB

Meh.
How is anyone supposed to make an informed choice like that.
I would have preferred to see the events of previous Witcher maybe even in a short comic and then decide based on what I saw.

Having watched the two retrospective videos that cover events in the previous game (about 15 minutes apiece) I don't know how CDPR could cram all that necessary information into the game while keeping the sequence meaningful but not having about an hour of past exposition and questioning. It's still got to be accessible to new players (like me) and not everybody will want to replay the games or even watch the videos. I had to watch them a couple of times and will watch them again before I start playing.

He's also had vampire companions in the past, so he has no ill will towards vampires that don't pose a threat to humanity.
Interesting, is this in the games or the books? I'll never play the games but will definitely read all of the books - I'm hooked now!

It is in the books.
And I think reading them is the best choice for someone who wants to play Wild Hunt and know what's going on. Wild Hunt is based so firmly on the saga that playing previous games is IMO not neccessary. I consider myself a HC fan of the Witcher, I first read some of the stories back in the 80's as 8 year old boy and reading them since then. But I don't remember anything from first two games (which I've finished) and I don't think it'll spoil my experience with the third

I'll certainly finish the The Last Wish but won't get the chance to read the other books before playing. I'm around half way through the book but already the character is very different from what I imagined. Certainly more thoughtful and compelling than his gruff voiced exterior suggests.

For those who didn't complete The Witcher 2 yet, like me, or couldn't play it for whatever reason, there is a way to carry over decisions from The Witcher 2 to The Witcher 3.

As soon as you start The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you are presented with a sequence in which you are asked some questions. They are some sort of a review or recap for The Witcher 2. You will be asked to remake your decisions from the previous title.

PlayStation Access has a video on the matter, for a better understanding of the questions asked.

how the hell can anyone know anything about these choices and what they mean for Witcher 3 ??!?!?! WTH :runaway:

Well Mass Effect 2 comic prologue on PS3 worked for me.
Sure it was synthetic but at least it gave shape to the names and the places which helped me to make a choice.

I've not played Mass Effect so I don't know how comprehensive the recap is but the Witcher retrospectives posted here are 15 minutes and fast paced. I guess we'll need to wait a while to find out if these choices are meaningful for Witcher 3's thrty-six possible outcomes or if they are less critical such as determining you might bump character X who you saved (or didn't kill), or vice versa.

Look, an actual manual! I haven't seen one of those for about ten years! (not my copy BTW). Glad I went physical for the manual, map and audio CD

ME2 comic presents you the choices but also gives you some info, here they give you nothing.
The first question is about a "Commander Aryan" but is Aryan a man or a woman, is it even human or it's a dwarf or a monster? They tell me nothing.
They then ask you about to talk about a place (if it is a place) called "Flotsam" but I have have no idea if it is a town, a valley, a castle or a magic dimension.
Third question: no info again for the payer.
Another question is about "Triss Merinold" but again I had to Google it to get some info because in the dialogue they don't actually tell you anything.

Ultimately I feel that CD Projekt is asking me which pictures I prefer but forgot to show them to me.

But this part of game is optional for those who played previous games and want to 'load' their saves. On PC this is easy, just point to TW2 latest save and it's done. This part of game is skipped, but for players on consoles they made this short questioning optional to allow 'importing' their decisions from previous game.

Not played TW2? Just jump into TW3 and skip this part :)

I understand but having watched the Retrospectives and PlayStation's Access's video where Holly somebody explains all the possible decision branches and their meanings and potential consequences, I can't see how they could squeeze all that in without having new played switch off. Have you played the earlier games, or watched the retrospectives? There's a crazy amount of plot and decisions and branching plot to cover.

@DSoup the best manual was TLOUR for me. It was english on original packaging and then sony send indonesian language manual (with really horrible translation) to the game stores, then they sends it to us :D

btw if you already get the disc, its should works right? no activation lock shenanigans right?

I don't have my copy of the game yet, that was just the first photo I've seen of the manual. I'm hoping I get a chance to play on a little on Wednesday but it'll probably be the end of the week.

Just went to my local GAME store in UK and TW3 is everywhere :) They even have Collectors Edition for XBONE an they let me hold statue!! It turned up today in their shop and it is the only one they have :)
Pictures to follow!

Ps. While I was chatting to guys at GAME another bloke stormed into the shop asking when they will start selling TW3! Tuesday was the answer ...

I think you are seeing things that aren't there :). The vampire said that in the past times no amount of coin would have convinced a witcher to take this contract, while the background music turns more menacing. It clearly portraits that this is so due to the threat level she poses. Geralt however is willing to be different and take on this threat. There really is no regret or remorse from Geralt there as far as I can see, not much anyway and Geralt didn't say anything about not taking this contract in the past.

I just played some more Witcher 2 (really not very far into that) and after having done so, one: I am really looking forward to The Witcher III being open world, and two: he has an interesting scar in his neck! :)
