The PS3 Linux distro we've all been waiting for

I got the wi-fi working, good stuff. I also fixed the underscan issue, instead of mode 3 or 4, 131 (720P) and 133 (1080P) fill the screen. Changes are in kboot.conf.

What about DivX support ?.. Can I watch x264 or any other DivX movies without a problem from CD/DVD media ?..

If they're of reasonable resolution. 720p+ is currently problematic for most players with most codecs. But anything below that should be fine.

Hopefully later you'll see optimised decoders that allow HD playback for more codecs.

I mean if i can watch these on PS3 ... Whats wrong with 720p+ res divx movies ?.. I can watch them on PC and PS3 is much more powerful than my PC ... Is this 720p+ problem
special to Linux , or this distro or PS3 ?..

It'll be because the players out there at the moment are running PPC code, running only on the PPE of the PS3's Cell. The moment someone gets a player that decodes on the SPEs, there'll be no worries.

Well, what you would probably need are some optimizations in ffmpg and other similar libraries....

Mounting failed when installing yellow dog linux

Hey, my ps3 is the Australian 60gb.
When i'm in kboot and type install-fc sda it asks me to enter disk, i do. then i say y and hit enter.

Mounting /dev/sr0 on /mnt/tmp/mnt/source failed: No medium found
Fedora core install DVD mount failed

I've tried making several copies on different disks (DVD+R DVD-R and dvd rewritable disks) but it doesn't help.

Maybe i need to mount manually or something, i really don't know much bout kboot and linux.

Can anyone please help, Thanks
Dillon

Probably problem with your burned dvd disk. Try reading it on a pc/mac/whatever other machine you have with dvd drive.

What I did is that I actually just downloaded the fedora image, unpacked files to usb hard drive. Mounted the hard drive manually from kboot and changed the install script to install from usb hard drive. Worked perfectly ok. It's easy few lines change to script. Did this because I don't have (or want) dvd burner. I did have the supplemental cd burned though and inserted that in the end of installation when asked for it.
