The next PS (at least) control

It's an update to the game controller obivously. :)

The site doesn't say anything about it, but after some detective work I was able to find this...

It's basically the addition of a trackball to a PS2 controller. ;)

I don't understand how they could get a patent for something like that when the Pippin had a joypad with a trackball in it. There may be other examples too by the way.

Nice find :!:

Thanks for the info

BTW, do a search for "Dan Kramer" and Atari on Google. Now you'll know where the idea of a Trak-Ball came from. ;)

Hint: He also has some Atari patents too.

As I showed above, the patent hasn't been issued. It's only been published. BTW, check out my hint above at the USPTO.

I don't see how a trackball can produce the result they show in the video. In my experience trackballs suck for fps games.
Something like the rumoured Revolution touchpad would be better suited for that AFAICS.

I use a Logitech Marble Mouse Trackball and am quite good at FPS thankyou very much ;) The keys I have found is the TB must (a) have a big ball (b) be used by the fingers, not the thumb and (c) have the sensativity adjusted correctly. I am pretty good at games in general, but I lose very few twitch quick assaults with my trackball because I find it to be very percise. It also is easy on my wrists.

IMO (and only mine) tough pads suck for sweaty hands. I have not used the NDS, but from the reviews people say its touch screen is also not as responsible as a real controller. As much as I am for intuitive controls and the like, innovating just to innovate (without solving old problems and not causing more problems that alienate establish genres) is pointless.

Consoles just need KB/MS setups :devilish:

Yeah, but the MS part of a KB/MS setup takes up some space and needs a plane surface, not topography you are likely to find in front of all TVsets.
The KB part of the setup is needlessly clunky and old-fashioned. An analog stick surrounded by an array of buttons would be much better.
