The Annual E3 Microsoft press conference thread, 2017 edition

The system is to expensive but I think the games look great a lot of them I will buy on windows. I rather take that $500 and buy vega latter this year.

No VR. No AR. After calling VR among the important reasons to get scorpio, partnership with oculus, vive, PC headsets from acer, and a lot of time spent with (fake) AR last year... Now it's absolute radio silence!

Phil Spencer said some months ago that he didn't feel like they were ready to push VR on console quite yet and felt that the PC platform was a better one for them to figure things out on.

They showed a lot of good looking games, but the vast majority of them were multiplatform or only timed exclusives. Not a single surprise from their first party. I'm guessing they've gutted the cloud tech from Crackdown 3, too.

Yes, I'm really surprised by the lack of anything new from first parties. Forza 7 doesn't really count since there's a Forza every year.

Biggest problem with the press conference was simply the lack of AAA games...especially not great when you are simultaneously showcasing "the most powerful console".
more or less that, console price aside. The conference would be great because they did the right thing, showing games and more games. The problem I see with it is that I expected another Perfect Dark game, Age of Empires, Kameo... etc. But there is no investment on Xbox exclusives as in the past.
F.
No big exclusive games to showcase a new 500$ console. Most games being showed were bottom of the barrel small games that very few people care about. Unbelievable lack of big budget games. Scorpio price too high became unbelievably high when taking into account that ms showed nothing to justify scorpio's existence . Phil spencer looked so nervous on the stage, like he knew he was on a suicide mission, I have never seen him that nervous. No surprises whatsoever. The hype ms executives have created for a year turned against them.

Honestly I am speechless about how horrific this whole charade was. Hell even the t-shirts they gave were embarrassing.
Phil Spencer didn't look nervous to me. But he didn't look overly enthusiastic when he announced the price, maybe he knew people's reaction after Geoff's leak.

I'm just catching up a little...really dont even have that much desire to dig that deep into catching up with this presser though.

I'm not sure if it's me getting older or the fault is we hit a wall of graphical diminishing returns right at the PS3/360 generation (those PS3/360 E3's tended to blow me away, but none from this gen have), all I know is the past few e3's have really failed to blow me away in any way shape or form like they used to. This was no exception.

Anthem looked pretty cool. both graphically and Destiny-like.

The new Metro look OK I guess. We have to have females front and center in every game trailer I guess, it's a little forced. I was never the biggest fan of these on PC, but there they were heavily ridden by bugs which shouldn't be an issue on consoles. The graphics were good, but again just not knocking me over.

Fora 7, ok. all I can think here is this is 4k 60. Does it look so much better (or even as good) as Drive Club's rain? I dont know. That's EIGHT (8, Ocho, VIII) times as much force to get the same graphics at 4k/60 as at 1080/30. Eight times. 8X is basically a generational leap in power. Is it really worth it? Just do some 30 FPS checkerboarding...ok you cant do Forza at 30 FPS (although why not, Drive Club was), but you know what I mean. This is a consequence of pushing strict 4k too much.

The Last Night, cool. Doesn't blow me away but cool.

Xbox One X. Form factor, I really like it. Sleek and black. Upper echelon for console form factors IMO. Is it different than regular Xbox One case? It looks better to me somehow.

499. High. I strongly expected 399 or at worst 449. So, color me wrong. I dont know though, I should have known...12GB RAM? a Titan X doesn't have 12 GB GDDR5...

Will be interesting to see what Sony does with Ps4 Pro price now. I expect them to leave it 399.

I can excuse the price somewhat because at least they got the more important part, the power part, down. With Xbox One they tried to sell a weak console for 499, remember that debacle?! So, this is much better. And you can always lower the price later, but you're stuck with the hardware. So, 499 isn't good, but I feel like the power will shine through anyways, sooner or later. Also for me personally, I'm looking at it after some thought like, with full BC I can sell off my XBO no worries, and I should be able to get ~200 for that, making the upgrade price $300, which isn't bad.

I think MS has a really compelling ecosystem but the games just seem to be lacking... I'd rate conference a b- minus, they really need more software.

My friend has a 60 inch LG oled 4k HDR tv. Playing some pc games on his 1080ti set up is amazing and hdr doesn't even work yet. I think we just have to see it in person to get the full effect of what is happening here.

The ps4 pro will most likely drop , retailers have already had it for sub $400 with promotions. I'm not sure its a big seller

Just putting in my thoughts here. We had a viewing party with 4K HDR OLED screen. Wow. Really it was something else. Going back home and watching it on my 1080p screen without HDR is a stunning difference is visual quality.

Not just some of the games, almost all of the games. Jaw dropping moments were anthem and Forza 7, kudos to shadow of war. You could tell which games were ready for 4K HDR in mind and which ones weren't.

Overall pretty happy with the conference, though big fears with crackdown. Very happy with the indie titles on display.

XBOX is only 600 CAD. So will buy it. :) cheaper than in the US. Now to get that TV :)

LOL. I guess a lot people had different expectations than me.

I am not sure why people expected a $400 tag.

In 2013 if you bought a xbo you were spending about $380 per Tflop. If you bought a launch PS4 that number works out to about $216 per. In 2016 a PS4 Pro cost you about $95 per Tflop with a 24% increase in bandwidth over the base PS4.

The XBOX offers a rate of $80 dollars per Tflop with a 50% increase in bandwidth and amount of RAM over a PS4 Pro. And on top of it all, MS is giving it to you in a package that's basically a Xbox One X Slim.

The $500 dollar price tag doesn't bother me at all. Primarily, because if this was a new gen even a $400 box would warrant additional spending on accessories like an extra controller, charging station and because this is an Xbox, a couple of charge and play kits. That $500 is mostly going towards the hardware itself.

One thing I can't wait for is a tear down of the XBO-X. I know that in the XBO there was a lot of empty space inside to facilitate the console being as quiet as possible while watching media, but the size of the XBO-X is really surprising. Especially when you consider that the SOC is likely quite a bit more difficult to cool (generates significantly more heat) but the PSU is internal now as well.

It does make you wonder. If they had decided not pursue quiet operation so much, and instead emphasized size similar to the XBO-X, it may have ended up being shockingly small.

Regards,
SB

if you look at it as the high end Xbox One, and that it clearly brings advantages over the PS4 Pro, the price seems around where it should be.

also coming from more of the PC side, if you look at what happened with graphics cards pricing since 2011, this looks a lot better than expected, the specs on this machine are fairly high, 384bit 12GB GDDR5 and so on.
