TES V: Skyrim

Kaotik, I don't suppose you would consider posting your enb config here, would you? Id love to see what you've got I'd you don't mind sharing!

Seems I based it on Enhanced Shaders FX 2.0 preview, but I'm not really sure if the other files (mainly the enbeffectprepass.fx) are from it or something else

Iron daggers with say a banish and a paralyze enchantment on them, even from just a petty soul gem are a license to print your own money in Skyrim.

There are quite a few ways to make shit tons of money in Skyrim, alchemy, enchantments and transmutation

Just pick up every single ingredient you ever come by, don't ever sell small gems, don't ever sell soul gems, soul trap everything.
1. Alchemy, make plutonium from everyday household items. Easy to make 2-600 gold/potion
2. Enchant cheap gear with small soul gems (as you point out)
3. Transmute: buy every single lump of iron ore you come by. While exploring in the wilderness always transmute iron->silver->gold, then forge gold bars, create jewelry add small gem, enchant, profit. Bonus: Alteration (which is otherwise training only), smithing and enchanting skills improve along with making money.

Cheers

Yup. The only trick there is collecting enchantments. The treasure hunter perk helps, as does routinely checking shopkeepers' inventories. I really like Riften and Whiterun here for the large number of shops that are reasonably close together.

Realistic Lighting Overhaul is a must have to combine with Climates of Tamriel. Add Enhanced Lights and FX with that and it's perfect.

I actually heeded this advice last weekend and it's phenomenal. Albeit, I forgot to try Enhanced Lights and FX in conjunction with the other two mods. Climates and Realistic Lighting alone make the game look 100% better. I need to try Enhanced Lights and FX. Out of curiosity, how don't these mods interfere with one another? Realistic Lighting is overriding my awesome rain mod I have installed, which is kind of a bummer. Even after prompting the install to not include it's weather effects, it still overrides my sweet rain mod.

I've been using old versions of Vurts flora overhaul, simply because the modder is making a lot of ugly additions to the newer versions. I can't stand the cat tails, lupins and these ugly, hulking, low resolution trees he's placed all over, so I'm running 1.75, I believe, at the moment, which is basically enhanced vanilla textures, with little to no creative liberties taken.

Ok, ok, are you all ready to pummel me and throw my beaten and near-lifeless body into the fire pit of despair as an offering to the Gaming Gods?

Ready...

I've been playing Skyrim this entire time without mods. There, I said it. :( On a 4.5Ghz 3930K, 32GB of ram and a 7970 running at 1250/1650 at that. I'm so ashamed

I'm squashing this problem tonight when I go home, and to do so I'll be downloading a fat stack of mods. Other than the excellent ENB series and lighting mods listed just above, what should I be looking at for my textures, NPC's, et al?

Enhanced night sky
Skyrim HD 2K textures
Serious Landscape
Elaborate textiles NPC clothing
Vurt's flora overhaul (read my post above)
Amidianborn armor retextures (I can't recommend these enough)
Climates of Tamriel
Realistic lighting overhaul
Water (the newest addition includes waves)
Xenius character enhancement mods
Bellyaches dragon textures
Static Mesh replacer

That just a few mods to start you off for a significant improvement. I'm currently running nearly 75. I'm running that many because I got really finicky over retexturing almost everything, right down to jewelry and spell impacts. ENB mods are great, but my experience with them has been that they're totally unstable and can result in some crazy graphical issues, like flickering colors. Also, they're notorious for severe performance dips. If I were to recommend a particular ENB mod, I'd say go with Skyrim Enhanced Shaders FX ENB. It was, for me, the most stable ENB mod with the best results.

W.A.T.E.R.'s newest version also requires Dragonborn DLC IIRC.

But one should also add Wet and Cold to the list for improved immersion (adds for example steam(? what it's called in this case?)) to people breathing in cold air (3rd person mode only for the player breath)

Do you use a mod manager? I have NMM take care of everything for me and it's fantastic at doing so. For instance I have Skyrim HD Textures 2k mod, however I also have W.A.T.E.R, which does a much better job at water overall. Since I had water installed first, when I installed the 2k texture mod in NMM, it prompted me that the existing mod modified those files and asked if I wanted to overwrite, which I stated no.

For mods that have their own esm files and don't seem to modify existing components of the Skyrim files, it's all about load order. The RLO and enhanced lighting and FX needs to be loaded after everything else for instance.

I haven't checked out flora overhauls yet, apart from a Lush Trees mod which takes a lot of the existing common trees and adds a lot more volume/branches to them. Combined with tree shadows on, self shadowing and lighting changes, riding through a forest is just utterly amazing.

Also with Climates, note that it isn't a ENB, they do have a separate ENB specifically designed for climates available in the downloads on nexus, as well as a list of recommended ones on their description page.

I was checking out Afterburner and with all this I actually max out my 2Gb VRAM on my 7870 quite easily.

The W.A.T.E.R. mod that I saw pictures of earlier (in this thread maybe) wasn't as "good" to me as the stock water. But maybe I'm thinking something else...

Thanks either way for the support!

This is true, the waves addition (latest version) does require Dragonborn. I'm relatively certain there's a standalone file for vanilla, though, albeit without waves ;)

I use NMM, also. It's very clean and removes all the unnecessary files when you choose to remove a mod. Manual installations are a real pain in the ass, and I've been using the Nexus Mod Manager dating back to when I modded Oblivion.

Another point, which Malo made, for Albuquerque , is the order of which you activate certain mods. For example, say you want download Skyrim HD which includes a landscape retexture, but you want to use Serious Landscape Overhaul, which I do. Install and activate Skyrim HD first, THEN activate Serious Landscape, and overwrite the files. Otherwise, mods will create conflicts with each other, if some all encompassing mods that have a tendency to retexture tons of things at once, are overwritten by an entirely different mod that you'd prefer to use.

The W.A.T.E.R mod, in my opinion, is excellent. It not only increases the overall visual fidelity of the water texture, but also adds some pretty tasteful effects like watery rocks and moving trough water, at the black smith stations.

Al, I seriously recommend using the Nexus Mod Manager. It's very easy to use and safe. Also, available on the Skyrim Nexus website is a file called BOSS, which when run will determine your load order. Install the mods you want to use, then run BOSS. It'll save you a ton of frustration and potential CTD's.

Fair enough re: W.A.T.E.R.; I'll check it out. I used OBMM back in the Oblivion days to manage mods, so NMM sounds like a sure thing to me :)

Yeah I don't understand that at all. Legendary resets all the perks and puts the skill back to 15? How is that legendary?

The Eurogamer article claims perks are wiped as well, which pretty much nullifies any point in "legendarizing" a skill... All you'll gain is more health, stamina or magicka and more character levels, making you harder to kill for enemies - but you're already plenty hard at 81, so... If you'd gain more perks, then yeah. There's a bunch of skills I would like to perk up, but that I am unable to right now since I don't want to lose the ones I already have...

It's basically a way of reassigning your character points, allowing essentially unlimited character progression.

I could, for example, play a warrior using two-handed with heavy armor, and then, upon reaching 100 skill in both of those, I could switch to dual-wielding and light armor, perhaps also getting sneak up.

Without giving the perk points back to the player to make use of, it becomes very, very difficult to do that sort of thing, because you just won't have enough perk points to really make use of the new skills.

i just realized that i played many many hours of skyrim without enabling perks :(

usually i just LEVEL UP, choose magic, stamina, or health. Press TAB and back playing, walking aimlessly enjoying nature :D
