Stupid MCE

I AM TRYING TO connect my video to the tv card through SVHS and watch TV that way, but the only way I can choose to have an in svhs signal as input is if I choose that I have set-top box, but then I need a FUCKING REMOTE PIECE OF SHIT CABLE CONNECTED TO THIS PIECE OF SHIT PROGRAM or I cannot connect the device through svhs.

So, how do I just connect my regular VHS through SVHS without the need for it being able to be controlled through media center?

i connected my video to my tv card via the arial socket
tv aerial --- > vhs
vhs ---> tv aerial socket on tv card

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do. But if your not feeding the arial signal into the TV card it's just acting as a capture card so you lave to then change channel on the svhs player which requires you set it up as set top box and give media center someway to change the channel, usually a remote cable.

Any piece of software will have the same limitation when wired that way.

Personally I just run my devices to seperate inputs.

That's the thing, I don't want to change the channel through MCE, mainly because I don't have the hardware for being able to do that. I mean, why is this a requirement? Can I bypass it and just add an SVHS channel to the regular channels list?

You can just set it up as a settop box, and not connect the remote cable.
It'll still try and change channels to record, but it'll just fail.

Since MCE is primarilly a TIVO like device with support for playing AVI files etc it seems a bit odd to want to set it up this way. If your just lookig for a way to capture video there is much better software.
