What do you guys think?

Is this the first Square-Enix game that's coming to the PSP? Guess I'm going to be a PSP owner pretty soon then..... :D

As I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere and cannot read Japanese I've got a question. Is it a remake or a completely new game?

The PSP version is a remake. The PS2 version is supposed to be a new game. And from the pics they are taking this game very serious.

It's difficult, but I'm trying not to get too excited about this. Tri-Ace hasn't released anything good since. . . well. . . the original Valkyrie Profile. Star Ocean 3 and Radiata Stories were both terrible. And not terrible in a "this was an awesome idea but it could've been implemented much better" type of way, terrible in a "I can't ----ing believe anybody thought this was a good idea" type of way. I will give them one more chance, but I am very close to giving up all faith in Tri-Ace.

I wonder if the game will actually look like that...

I will have to disagree VERY strongly with you here, at least on Star Ocean 3.

Best combat system and by far the most replay value of any game in any genre this generation. A true spectacle.

That said, the story is terrible once the "twist" becomes evident, but let's not kid ourselves -- the game doesn't even really begin until after you are playing on a clear file on AT LEAST universe difficulty. It is all about the combat, anyway, and unlocking all the battle trophies.

I only wish you could get access to all the characters much sooner to give more variety to the obligate replays as you go through the difficulties/trophies (there is still a crapload as is).

To be honest, I never got to the "postgame" part of SO3. I played for about 55 hours through some of the worst, most nonsensical, slowest-moving plot, most annoying characters, and most generic, boring, and convoluted dungeons I have ever encountered in an RPG, before getting so bored and frustrated that I couldn't take it anymore. Not to mention the cryptic item creation system that is pretty much impossible without a guide, the crappy music that sounds like it came from an N64 wrestling game, horrible script, voice acting that was filled with awkward pauses. . . I could go on and on. SO3's combat was fun, but everything else about that game is absolutely abysmal.

SO3's postgame stuff might be excellent. . . but in my opinion, if you have to play a game for over 60 hours before it even gets good, that is a bad game. I truly believe that Tri-Ace knows how to make a good battle system, but is utterly clueless when it comes to plot, characters, dialogue, music, attention to detail, etc. I have no faith that they can make a good game anymore.

You can beat the game in just over 4 hours.

Even not trying to rush through I generally beat it in 10 hours on a replay (depending on difficulty).

To each their own, though, just be glad you've never fought Freya on 4D mode...

And of course item creation is impossible without a guide... completing RPGs with a crapload of stuff in them is ALWAYS impossible without a guide. This is why gamefaqs exists. The SO3 messageboard is also VERY active... you can pretty much get an immediate response any time of the day if you are unclear on something. I wish the item creation were a bit better... that is, less given to random items popping up, but once you know what you're doing its a breeze, though can be annoying at times.
