*spawned - The gametrailers comparison video legitimacy discussion

See, the contrast is higher on the XBOX 360 even with the RGB FULL.

Hey buddy, this is not higher contrast, this is just weird gamma correction on XB360.

Both pics are captured straight from the hardware signal. There's no tweak in them. You can "right click" & do "properties", it's a pic from eurogamer.

If you take account of the difference of contrast between both side of the video comparison from Gametrailers & the pic from eurogamer of Assasins Creed?

Eurogamer said:
As usual, backing up the analysis is a range of comparison screenshots of each game, losslessly extracted with full 24-bit RGB precision from the HDMI ports of the Xbox 360 Elite and PlayStation 3 courtesy of a Digital Foundry HD capture unit. 720p shots are provided as standard for all games, but where the PS3 version supports 1080p (either scaled or native), we supply additional 'True HD' screengrabs to compare the games' respective performance for those privileged enough to have access to top-end displays.

I've heard a lot about Assassins Creed being the most biased comparison from Gametrailers, but is it really the case?

This how paranoid users should not think.

I didn't make this pic, I took it from here

That's the right way to see it. ONLY ANNOUCED ON PS3

Those comparisons are idiotic, anyways. PS3 games might have certain special effects reserved for HDMI output. Likewise for 360 and its outputs. Plus, there's the impossibility of them knowing what your TV settings make the game look like.

What shows up in those videos is NOT necessarily what you see on your display. Those comparisons are utterly useless in that regard.

sure, because XB360 do this "tweak"... and t's not higher contrast it's just different gamma profile. You can't get higher contrast then 256 shades per colour component because we speak about 8-bit RGB.

It is indeed a different gamma profile, though "It look like more contrasted" for a lot of people if you don't go too much in technical detail.

I did point out in my previous post that the PS3 is the system that use the right gamma color setting output which appear correctly in the encoded video provided by gametrailers.

I am confused. What are you trying to show here ?

The brightness & blur are created by the video compression. It happen on both system witch may appear more washed out & brighter due to the video compression. Due to the difference of color space of both console, it kind off give that result.

Here a game they didn't compare & check the result.

PS3

XBOX360

I think they were still using component, but you clearly see a degradation from the video compression.

The gamma, color space, whatever shown in the PS3 side during the comparison at gametrailers is technically the good one which have the right color & all.

 I don't think it has the intended effect. This is the kind of unnecessary content/behaviour that rubs people the wrong way. Your 360 vs PS3 MGS4 comparison only confuses the issue on-hand even more.

You know I would have never used GT's Assasin's Creed comparison video since it was one of those that caused an outrage from gamers sicne the game didnt even look as bad in colors and lighting as it was shown by GT. True the game lack slightly compared to the 360 but the difference shown in that video was never experienced by people who have played the game on their TVs. Even on their SD TVs.

It's an odd addition to the gaming press. I don't remember any head-to-head's etc. last gen. I guess because so many more titles are cross-platform in some ways it makes sense, but I do wonder if journalists have been carried away with the idea and lost sight of the aims of such comparisons, instead just creating fanboy fodder? Any comparison should be to educate gamers as to which version to buy for whichever platform they own.

IGN and Game Informer did head to heads last gen.

I'm not sure who you are talking about, but having a preference and declaring one version better based on a color tint sound different to me.

It got a bit mangled, but just look at this page of the thread(4) to see what I'm getting at. I was just talking about the 'look' and not the actual gameplay or mechanics of the game. As demonstrated by the discussion about Virtua Fighter 5 here, where the difference in 'looks' is apparently just a difference in settings and not a conscious choice by the developer, unlike GTA4 where the difference in colors is not determined or influenced by hardware but by choice.
I just think it's silly to pick and choose, that's what I'm saying.
