IT can't be an ipod killer . An ipod focuses on music only and for its lowest capacity ipod you would need to spend 100$ on the ipod or 300$ on the psp. THe ipod is the size of your thumb and is easily portable .

To get to its smallest hardrive unit . You would need to spend 200$ on a 4 gig ipod mini and what 650$ for a psp to play the same amount of music ?

No it can't be an ipod killer . Perhaps a portable video player killer . But not an ipod killer. For what ipod and the other flash / hardrive players offer sony just can't compete . Even the 60gig ipod photo at 450$ is both smaller and much more money efficent .
You would need 60 1 gig memory stick duos to equal that one ipod .

    The costs are nuts

Move to Japan, or buy a 23" Samsung instead!

Unfortunately most Samsung panels are trash.
None of the current offerings come even close to the spec of the LG panel that is used in the 24" Dell.

Well, Apple is supposed to be using the same panels in their line - but those are roughly 2x the price of Dell - not amusing.
