Sony PlayStation 5 Pro

I get the feeling that the point of the Pro was to test the waters with PSSR and ML in general in the PS ecosystem. I wouldn't be surprised if the ML unit is capable of more than just the upscaling. Maybe later on in its lifecycle we'll see frame generation and other reconstruction technologies being rolled out. By having it in the market already they're going to be able to scrape a ton of useful metrics and data from the players and games.

As for why they wouldn't shout aboout this during its reveal; well they might not about implementation, selling features that might not ever make it to this platform. There are lots of possible reasons why they wouldn't let people know. Besides imagine the extra buzz they can get if they announce extra features later in the cycle. Getting people ready for the PS6.

For sure, you can run anythign on these units. There isn't some hardware requirement to run neural networks. It just comes down to how much time is available to do this work while meeting their frame rate/resolution targets.

In my experience, I've never seen anyone do a stealth hardware reveal for something extremely relevant. It's never common and if it does, it's often of extremely obscure information that is not worth discussing.

Won’t be anything stealth about it when they reveal the new features along with the PS6 in 4yrs time. PSSR is gonna get us through the rest of this generation.

I'm definitely expecting them to. I also anticipate they will be running them on Matrix Cores by then.

I hope future APIs for both console and PC will fully expose the Matrix Cores/Tensor Cores/XMX cores to developers. An AI TSR successor and other in-engine AI upscalers might beat the current black box AI models running on generic TAA inputs.

yea, TAA has got to go.

It's not irrelevant. The question is how many OLED owners are likely to have bought a console of any kind, and hence have experienced 30fps on their TVs. That number is probably not a 'fairly small minority' as was initially stated. That's all!
Not to quote myself BUT. I decided to play Black Myth Wukong at 30fps (unlocked?) and I must say, it's not THAT bad. Definitely not a life ending experience, but I think it's because the motion blur makes it much smoother than other 30fps games, at least on my OLED.

They never talk anything that makes legacy product look worse.. they didnt talk about PS5 running PS4 software better than PS4 before launch,

I am guessing there's no special magic going on here, and it's just a way of allowing the Pro to use its full capabilities in games that have dynamic resolutions or unlocked framerates that can go beyond what the base PS5 can achieve, whereas keeping it off just keeps the Pro in a sort of capped base PS5-mode.

The wait is so annoying.
People are already receiving their purchases (delivery on national holiday even) but apparently there's a press embargo until the 6th.
We can expect a lot of clickbaits and misinformation until there.

Interesting. So launch TFLOPS is 16.7

Hmm so that puts final boost clock speed at 2.18Ghz.
