Still, I don't think "Digimask" or some similar technology would be accurate enough for modelling your car.
It hardly can make a recognisable face in games it is used currently, and I don't think the technology would advance so much for next gen (which is not that far away).
They are not modeling your car. I don't see where you're getting that from. The skin of your car taken from the 2D picture will be stretched over a model taken from within the game. Image recognition should have made this clear. Through this approach, this custom car will not look completely identical to your car, but it will look enough like your car.
