Some vague ideas for GT5...

Discussed by Polyphony at the official annoucement of completion of GT4.

The Polyphony guy claims doing crashes properly would require rendering the underside of the car as well as doing precise physical calculations to show realistic damage. But it's something they plan to try to accomplish, presumably on the PS3.

Also messing with some kind of "image recognition" system to try to permit gamers to get their own cars into the game?

In my post in the GT4 merchandise topic, is a link to a Gamewatch article that mentions GT5, but it's in Japanese and Babelfish didn't do too well with it. So there might be new info there, but I don't know.

I got this info. from IGN. Presumably, their Japanese correspondent is relating this info. correctly.

Well I would presume that as well. Anoop knows his stuff.
It's just that I sometimes find extra info at Gamewatch for games.

Polyphony Digital also announced the development of Gran Turismo 5 for PlayStation 3, the game will have damage model for the first time, to make the game more realistic. GT5 will support the EyeToy camera, you can take pictures of a car and the game can use it to build a custom car.

:? How do I drive my car (had I one) to my living room so I can take a picture of it with Eye Toy :?

It seems they didn't think of that, is this an indication to the overall design quality of PS3? Teh SONY engineers must suxx for letting such a huge flaw slip through! Consentrating on the PSP SONY has clearly lost its focus!

Nah they will just release a Camera Add-On for PSP, so you can take pics of ur car, plug it into the PS3 and off u go.
So u'll have to buy:
1x PS3
1x GT5 copy
1x PSP
1x Camera Add-on
1x >32MB Memory Stick Duo (for PSP, so you can store the images)
1x Very angry partner
1x Steering Wheel for PS3

Nice!! All for one game!!! A real car would cost less and feel more "real".

Disclaimer: All of the above was obviously a joke, don't get trigger happy with the napalm.

Real damage simulation... my own car in the game... Amazing next gen physics...
I'm super excited already, and GT4 hasn't even come out yet. Dam you Polyphony!!!

Alright lets snap pictures of school buses and dump trucks! Maybe a firetruck as well which were always fun to take in GTA. Plow right through the competition or setup a road block ;)

Even a 2 or 3 Megapixel camera should be able to capture a higher resolution capture than what the game should be able to render.

Maybe the PS3 will have Memory Stick Duo support.

Or maybe it can interface with the PSP wirelessly or via USB and pull pics. from a Memory Stick Duo card in the PSP.

Buy those Sony digital cameras with MS Duo slots!

I think Sony should make PS3 compatible with MS, the normal ones. the DUO slots are only compatible with DUO sticks, whereas standard MS slots are also compatible with DUO cards (you need a small adapter thing to fit the smaller DUO into a MS slot).
That way people with older MS will be happy. The advantages of DUO over standard MS are minimal anyway, unlike the PRO variants (of both) which are much better.

Why didn't they use Memory STick for the PS2? They could have really increased MS market share.

Of course, now the $25 it costs to get a 8 MB PS2 memory card will get you a lot mroe flash memory, even in MS or even MS Duo formats.

But back in 2000, what did a 16 MB Memory STick cost, like $50?

Don't forget the GTboys announcement... that means by the time we reach GT5 on PS3 there'll have been 12 seperate GT releases!

-Gran Turismo 2: Real Driving Simulator (PS)
-Gran Turismo 3: A Spec (PS2)

...am I the only one who'd like to see something else from PD? Maybe a Motor Toon GP or Omega Boost sequel for a change?
