Some useless negative PS3 rumors sure to be false but fun to read

I'm sure I read that Sony were going to use the latest MPD technology in Cell, which should keep temperatures low.
Lower than they would have been without it maybe, that doesn't mean low in absolute terms. You'd really expect the first round of consoles to be on the edge of what's acceptable in terms of heat output. If they weren't you'd have to question why they didn't squeeze a bit more out of the system. Most of the consoles will be sold after a couple of years when they'll have been able to shrink the process and bring power consumption and thermal output down so it makes sense to be on the limit of reasonable heat output for the first round of manufacturing. Same goes for the 360.

That's not an IBM source. It's second-hand, at best.

You are right, not all of them. Some of them were using massive air fans.
"Massive", as compared to what? The pics I've seen the heatsink/fan looks no bigger than your average retail CPU cooler from AMD or intel. If that big even.

Besides, I've not seen even a single refridgeration-cooled cell server. Where exactly are these exotic beasties supposed to be found?
