Wal Mart seems to be stressing everything but the PS3 so far, with gift cards. So far theyve done or have slated in the near future: $100 GC with Arcade, $50 GC with Wii (Dec 5-12), and $50 GC with Elite to come. But so far have not seen a PS3 GC deal from Wal Mart.
That's being pedantic and nitpicky, and you know it.
If I turned right around and went back in to buy whatever I had come to Walmart to buy...be it Christmas gifts or whatever, I've essentially saved 100 USD buying the arcade. In other words, no matter where that money is spent, the Arcade is effectively 99 USD.
And Obonicus, that quote was from the article implying that was the kick-off of MS's sales numbers for either Black Friday or last week. If it was something else, that's really rather shoddy journalism.

The only usefull thing to get with that $99 gift card is a hard drive to make the damn purchase credible otherwise its a $300 premium ripoff when you can just buy the elite.
Argue and debate all you want its false advertising, the console needs the hdd to be used properly you have to be some missinformed cheapskate customer who opens his/her wallet asking people to take their money might as well get a Wii and games or just a ps3 to rent blu ray movies if that's an excusable case
Why would you need the HDD to run games? I have installed a grand total of 2 games the whole time I've owned my X360. Even without installing, load times are often faster than the same game on PS3 with a partial install.
So I'm not exactly getting how the Arcade/Core NEEDs a HDD to be "used properly."
Sounds like sour grapes and console envy to me.
If you wanted a 99 USD console when that sale was running you could basically get a 99 USD HD console. If that wasn't an option you could always still opt for the elite. I'm really not seeing this whole doom and gloom scenario of it somehow being a ripoff...
