So Doom 3 Done

Well, took a week or so off reviewing in order to get some Doom time in and just completed it this morning. Kept me gripped, but like the write up at 3DCenter, I was terrified for a fair amount of it!

So, what next? Sounds like HL2 will be soon. Until then, both ATI and NVIDIA are intent on keeping us extremely busy, and we've got a few bits an bobs coming in the next few weeks.

Presnelt I have a Sapphire "Toxic" Radeon X800 PRO to finish, and as mentioned, NVIDIA have sent us an NV43 that we'll be putting through its paces - look for that to go up at the same time as everyone elses. ATI will be going Multimedia crazy in the next few weeks, so keep an eye open for a few things there. Nick presently is putting the finishing touches to a Radeon 9550 review and then I'll be sending him a couple of LeadTek 6800's to look at, and Rev should be looking at a Point of View 6800 GT (if we can prise him away from experimenting with the Doom3 engine).

Ah well, busy, busy, busy...

An other reviewer (Ante P ?) posted some time ago here that ATI will be launching only low end AIW boards. Is it still true or can we expect some AIW X800 XT ?

Sounds like you enjoyed 'Doom 3', Dave? Good, nice to hear someone else appreciated it for what it is, a damn scary game!

Oh, if you want to send me a couple of 6800's I'll do some, erm, really interesting reviews on them, honest ;)

I can't really say anything for sure, but you may want to ask whether there was a time when ATI didn't provide an AIW on based on their high end chip? Having said that, given the apparent difficulties with the Platinum Edition, I doubt adding more components to the board would make that particular SKU easier to produce as an AIW.

Yes, like I said it kept me coming back and wanting to see more. I wasn't really too concerned about the discussion on whether it was old hat gameplay or not since I don't really have the time to really need to spend a week trying to get into the game and understand it in the first place - thats the simple reason I found Painkiller a bit of a larf, as I could just boot it up and shoot the shit out of some stuff and turn it off when I felt I needed to write / bench a little more or get on with the rest of my life. Doom3 wasn't exactly the same pace as Painkiller, but it was equally as immediately accessible.
