I believe they felt 130nm low k would have been up and running and the 500mhz clocks the nv30 hit would have been just the beging. I figure they felt with a solid 200mhz lead in clock speed they would destroy the r3x0 which was on 150nm and would have had problems hitting 300mhz. I think when they saw it hit 320 on the first revisions they pissed thier pants and new they were screwed .

I honestly didn't think ati would pull out such high core clocks
