Silly Season 09 - (Football transfers)

Mata

Cash + Negredo for xabi alonso is apparently in the works. Pool is asking €41 mill

Perez says he wants two or so more signings and the squad is refreshed.

Barca trying to get Villa by making a final offer worth €40 mill + 2 players.

The suprise here is that Barca is sending their bid to Valencias biggest creditor, not to Valencia themselves, in hope that they will put pressure upon valencia to accept

Chelsea are close to buying Yuri Zhirkov, who apparently is in london now, for a medical. (goal.com)

Edit: Zhirkov signed

Nice to see the Spanish nutters getting in on the silly season action.

Fancy causing a riot at a player unvailing.

I found this rather amusing:

Darius Vassell's welcome to Turkey by fans of his new club. An overly-fanatical welcome for a striker who has scored just 20-odd goals in total over the course of the past 4 seasons!

So Fergie is looking to sign yet another winger? I would say that was a strange one but Obertan looked to be a very good prospect - skilful, quick and strong - when France beat the England Under-21s a few months ago so perhaps it's not such a bad idea. The new Thierry Henry, perhaps?

Personally I think Nani has enough tools in the box to be a world class winger. Something missing at the moment obviously; I think he's "quite" young. But if Fergie can't improve him it's back to Portugal or obscurity. Not a Man Utd follower so may be missing something (including an impending transfer!).

I suggest you search for a video of it then, there was a pitch invasion followed by many "fights" between the fans and police/security, so much so that the cops had to escort Ronaldo from the stadium.

If the Terry thing ever comes to fruition I think it'll be a major deciding factor when other players think about City.

Maxwell joins Barca for €5 mill. Their second signing after Kerrison.

Tevez sign for Man City. Adebayor signs a 180k pound a week deal for City.

Ostepop, maybe the EPL isn't where your interest lies but any thoughts on how Man City will do in the upcoming season? I'll save my thoughts for now.

Lucio signs for Inter €5 mill.

My thought about Man City? I havent seen them play, and i dont really know a lot of the players they have all that well, but i think they have been doing some wierd signings. Spending 12£ mill on bellamy? Wtf?? While landing star players like Kaka might be hard for City, there are plenty of world class players that play in mediocre premier division clubs all over europe, that should have been signed instead of a lot of the medicore signings that City has done.

Im unsure if Mark Huges is the right coach.

Anyways, i cant really say how Man City will play, cuz i haven't seen them and half their line up is unknown to me, but as long as City keeps spending they will get to the top 4 soon enough, but again, im in no position to say anything about how they will fare this season, because i haven't seen city play.

Personally I think Man City will go the way of a number of other clubs who've decided they need to spend lots of money, but don't really know why they're doing it. I'll be very surprised if they make the Champions League in the forseeable future. UEFA Cup for sure, but who the hell cares about that?! They have a big image problem - they are the second team in Manchester, and they'll always be the second team in Manchester no matter how much money they spend. Any player going there is going there for the money and nothing else - and that's not really a way to build an effective team that'll rival the incumbent top-four.

Looking at how good Chelsea became after Abrahimovic, should give a tip as to how high you can reach by just building teams with lots of money.

Chelseas signings however imo look alot better. Man City are throwing vast amount of money around but from the little i know about the players they signed, they aren't exactly build of the same material as world class players who are going to win them a CL.
