Shader Compilation on PC: About to become a bigger bottleneck?

According to testing by Digital Foundry on multiple systems, Doom Dark Ages has zero compilations stutters, zero traversal stutters and not even a lengthy precompilation step. It's a breath of fresh air.
id Tech is forward renderer with ubershaders for materials which significantly reduce the amount of shader permutations and is thus by default require comparatively little compilation.
At least it was for Eternal.

That's only a part of it I think. In the DF video their materials designer seems to not be node based but rather use material composing like substance painter or in The Order 1886. This restricts the art team to the use of a fixed set of shaders for their materials.
