Seriously, could overheating cause this?

My new monster is doing the "random reboot cha-cha-cha" thingy right now. I'm pretty sure it's Nivdia's fault (nTune and Forceware; either or both in collusion with each other).

The thing has uber crashed on me just by changing the monitor resolution.. Sigh. And there was a time when NV's driver stability was considered king.

Peace.

I don't know whether its related to NVIDIA, but when I have this random reboot thing I always check the POWER connectors to the various devices in the PC cabinet (including graphics card). Sometimes all it takes to cause such a problem is a loose contact in one of the power cables attached to any device, or even VERY small bits of dust in the area where the molex connector is located in your hard disks/graphics card etc.

No matter how good a PSU I get, I have always had to deal with this issue at least once with each PSU. Maybe constant/repeated plugging and unplugging causes the contacts to become loose....

For example, just recently I had 3DMark05 and Half-Life 2 crashing on me each time, with every driver. Turns out that cleaning the molex connector on the 6800GT and the PSU's molex wire fixed it....

Well, it's getting weirder :???:...

The problem in XP seems to have rectified itself, for the time being... Just ran through a load of games and they all seem to work perfectly. God knows what I've subconsciously done to temporarily solve it, lol.

The miserable performance in Vista continues, however. Looking at Firing Squad et all's Vista vs XP benchmarks, performance should be about even. But not for me. All games run at half the framerate tha they do in XP (that is, when XP is behaving itself, see above).

It's sick, throw it in the trash and get a new one.

Don't tempt me :devilish:.
