SEGA's NEW ARCADE HARDWARE...

Well, it's certainly capable of generating belly laughs. Unfortunately, a harumph is the loudest appropriate noise for the Tech forum (because glee, as we all know, is silent =D), so let's keep the ballyhoo to a minimum, old boy, there's a good chap, what what.

I have no idea what those screens are supposed to be (mock-ups, with mock as the operative word?), but here are some actual Shining Force Cross screens and videos.

Ow ow ow, the aliasing...eyes...bleeding...

OK, not that bad, but that's some really atrocious aliasing for some relatively simple scenes. And the shadows.../shudder.

I still like the art direction though. It's one thing I think is missing the most from this generation of consoles (PS3/X360 that is). There just aren't as many stylized art directions. Sometimes I just want a game that looks cartoony/anime-ish. Instead we get something like Borderlands or Champions that's going for a realistic but cell shaded look. /sigh.

Hmmm, I think I'm starting to wander in my old age, ahem...

Man I wonder what could be done with a modern day side scroller using purely high definition sprites at 1080p? Ooooooh.

SB

Note this isn't a game discussion thread! What are the technical mertis of the Ringedge system? You know, a middling spec PC as an arcade. Without any SEGA custom hardware, because they are buying off the shelf parts these days.

Should this thread even be in this forum or the PC Tech forum??

Well, technically shouldn't ringedge be more than capable of performing simple 2x or 4x box AA on the relatively simple scenes shown for Shining Force?
