Sega Onboard Nintendo DS and PSP
Says it's had DS development kits since last year.

February 06, 2004 - According to a report in Japan's Nikkei Industrial News, publisher and developer Sega is onboard to create software for Nintendo DS, a dual-screened portable set for release later this year by Nintendo. Sega's president Hisao Oguchi also confirmed that the company is ready to make software for Sony's forthcoming PlayStation Portable (PSP) system.

Hisao told Nikkei that Sega has been in possession of Nintendo DS development hardware since last year. Nintendo of America only recently sent out development kits to US development studios.
Nintendo DS, a unique new portable which is being called the "third pillar" to GameCube and Game Boy Advance by firm president Satoru Iwata, features two screens positioned vertically on top of each other and is able to play cartridge-based software. Nintendo promises that the system will be revealed in full at the Electronics Entertainment Expo, at which time it will be on display in playable form.

Sony's PSP handheld features a widescreen TFT LCD backlit monitor, a MIPS R4000 32-bit Core CPU, two graphics chips, wireless LAN capability and more. Development sources have indicated to IGN that games are already up and running with PSP emulation software and that the system is capable of outputting "PS2-like graphics." PSP is expected to launch before the end of the year.

Nintendo recently stated that its DS portable is not a successor to Game Boy Advance line and that it will not compete with the PSP. It also said that it is currently in development with the follow-up to its highly successful handheld.

IGN will have more as it becomes available.

Sega games at launch? Yum...

I guess they're working on different titles for the 2 different platforms given the differences in setup and architecture, unless i'm still missing something big...

I actually saw someone with an Ngage!! A guy in my gym has it... Go figure... It's the second person i've seen with an Ngage...

If you say so hey69. Just like SEGA developing Daytona 3 for an unknown console.

my cousin went to japan interviewing people from nintendo and sega.
as a matter he wrote an interview published at gamespy last week . He told me that they were deving that game at the moment.
it's not like i'm telling you the full specs of the ps3 here...

i'm not commenting on anything besides games, my replys get deleted anyway and NO I don't have them

I'm just a tad bit skeptical of SEGA developing Astro Boy for the PSP. I know Sonic Team is developing the PS2 game but why have some sort of secrecy for developing a PSP version? Do you have knowledge of all PSP games in development from SEGA? I will contact my "friends" in Japan and ask them about a possible Astroboy for the PSP.

Sega was also on Ngage, if I am not wrong, since I don't own Ngage, I don't know.

I think they have Sonic and Sega Rally on Ngage.
To my knowledge those are the only ones developed specifically by Sega, and SRC isn't going to be out for a few months yet. There's also a Super Monkey Ball and Virtua Tennis out now, but by other developers--Amusement Vision and Hitmaker, respectively. (They were AM4 and AM3 though, right? Makes them "close enough" in my book, unless there are actual separation now. Certainly doesn't seem like it, though...)

sega is atm developing astroboy for PSP

So it will be the PS2 port of Astroboy I take it ?

I want Night of some sort, either on Nintendo DS or PSP from Sega. Maybe PSP since we know that will have analog.

Space Channel 5 for PSP would be cool too, since GBA can't really do the game justice.

Ohh really ? Is Ngage Monkey Ball any good ?

BTW does Ngage has Analog control ?

on a side note, VF5 is in the works for console(s) X , but I guess everybody knows that already

Don't know (but assume "no") and no. (The latter leading to my opinion of the former.

And amusingly (just considering the comment timing), a few more engaging Sega titles have been announced:
Nokia has also announced that publisher Sega is set to bring two more games to the N-Gage, with Bluetooth-enabled versions of Virtua Cop and Alien Front both set to arrive on the platform later this spring.

Meanwhile, Sega on DS.

SEGA is a company that develops games from several internal teams. For accounting reasons, these teams are independent, yet it's only on paper since they're fully owned (100%) and operate out of SEGA buildings physically. Amusement Vision and Hitmaker are two of these divisions, their status in this context equivalent to others like AM2 and Sonic Team.

Portable development is often handled by subsets within the company.

I also find that charting the teams' name changes and franchise assignment is not often relevant, as core staff has moved a lot between projects and divisions over the years.

I assumed as much, but they did grab more divergent names so you never know. And I guess "Monkey Team" wouldn't sound too good. ;)

And while we are on the topic of Sega dev teams, I just noticed that a certain 'Digital Rex' team has appeared. Headed by Yu Suzuki(spelling?), and Shenmue placed under its portfolio. Absolutely no idea what it will be doing.
