Second Shipment of PS3 in

Some fun with numbers:

Lets be generous and say your EB/Gamestop took pre-orders for 50 people (160,000)
Lets be generous and say your EB/Gamestop received 10 PS3's for launch (32,000)
---

Umm, Gamestop took 5-16 pre-orders per store.

I think all expected 8-16 PS3's, and sold either 8 or 16 pre-orders depending. 50 is ridiculously over reality. I know, I was #13/16 at one store, and FWIW I did get mine on launch day. Remember that Gamestop was very careful to not oversell pre-orders this time around.

They even tried to get me to voluntarily slide back to second shipment in exchange for a free $20 DVD or game. At the time, not having a clue about second shipment, I declined in a heartbeat. But it now does appear from forum reports that second shipment did indeed come in very rapidly. Of course, too late for ebayers LOL, as PS3 ebay prices dropped from $2500 at launch to around $1,000 within about 24 hrs.

Now we are back to the speculation a bit. Much like you are assuming Sony 'owes' EB/Gamespot X amount of PS3's because Sony promised to have them available for launch, I am speculating no way Sony is gonna do it.
...

It appears you don't live in the states, which is fine, but the PS3 preorders at GS/EB were handled a bit differently than 360's (they didn't start them 'til they got a number from Sony). This shipment likely finished off almost all the preorders for GS/EB (one more and GS/EB would be putting them on the shelves, for a couple minutes at least). Why do you think GS/EB got this extra shipment while seemingly no other store is reporting another shipment? Seems clear to me that Sony is giving them some special treatment.

5-10 seems overly optimistic if not improbable. Especially with all the other chains to feed with units as well. Your talking about EB/Gamespot getting about 150k of the PS3 shipments till the end of the year. NO SHOT that is happening.

A couple of stores did get 10 PS3s in so....

mckmas8808, how did you find out about the second shipment numbers ? I would like to know too so that I can land one myself.

i think unofficaly it was already cut in half . still no new ps3's inmost japanese stores

I've been looking at Japanese auctions for the PS3. It seems the going rate for the 60GB model is currently only 75,000-85,000 JPN ($640-$725USD)

That's not nearly as bad as I expected. As long as it was in pristine condition, for 75,000JPN I might just grab one this week instead of having to wait for weeks to months. Normally I would be against it, but I feel giving someone $128 who probably had to stand out all night in the rain to score one is fair...

I'll sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

If I'm not mistaken it was 1 million for US and 1 million for Japan. Rest is history, if Sony could manage +1 million consoles for EU launch, I would be more than happy but thats highly unlikely. Here's one for hoping though.

Apparently they've confirmed they're still on track to deliver 1 million units to the US by the end of the year.

IF true, I think it's a pretty decent number, certainly much better than those 200k especulated by analists.

From the link:
Karraker also confirmed that biggest selling game of the PS3 launch was Resistance: Fall of Man and that the 60GB PS3 outsold the cheaper 20GB model.
Nice way to spin it! There were far more 60GB units than 20GB ones :p Understandably, as apparently Sony loses less money on the 60GB than the 20GB ones.

Honestly, what do you expect Sony to say:

Option 1:
"Sorry, we won't be making enough PS3's for christmas, our initial estimate of 1M units is actually 500k. In the meantime i'm sure you'll have no problems playing 360 or Wii games! Have fun!"

Option 2:
"Production is perfectly smooth now. There will definitely be loads of PS3's in the shops at Xmas so, really, don't wast your time buying 360's and Wii's cause there WILL be lots of PS3's in a month time! Seriously, LOTS!"

People on other boards right now are reporting what they see in the stores. As a matter of fact a BestBuy in Dadeland (I think this is the Miami area) just received 40 PS3s!!!

anything in the dc area?

Not sure but the best thing to do is just call every single Best Buy in your area. The Best Buy in my area said they should be getting some this week, but wouldn't say when or how many (yeah I already have one, but I was just calling out of interest).
