SDHC RAID (why do only Japanese get nice toys?)

It's a 6 times SDHC raid, and you can get cheap-brand 8 GB cards for 20 euro ... sure write speeds ain't all that, but aggregate 100+ MB/s read speeds should be easily achievable even with those cheap cards at <0.5 ms latency (if the thing is decently engineered).
 
And the failure rate for this would be far better(err, lesser?) than standard HDDs due to no mechanical parts.
That drive is very interesting since you can add your own cards. All the ones I've searched for just now come with set sizes or use RAM chips(which obviously would need a constant power source).
 
As long as you don't put your swap or registry on the drive ... or at least if you want to do that, use higher quality cards. My main interest is cheap, high bandwidth low latency SSDs though. Neither write throughput nor reliability for frequent small writes are big on my agenda.
 
Davros, 8Gig is very cheap and fills the entire 4 memory slots on almost all motherboards. This SDHC Raid is for larger persistent storage in addition to faster than HDD access times.
 
I've had experience using flash media for PC primary storage. You do get quite incredible read speeds out of it...
And a rather miserable write performance otherwise. For whatever reason, all the flash media I've seen has a horrible performance dive for whenever starting a write (and I'm not talking about small write sizes where it would make sense, I'm talking megabytes), only to average out to ok speeds with large transfers. So basically any time an operation occurs on a computer, there's a horrid lag. It's different than a slow hard drive which is just always sluggish, this is fast then complete freeze, fast, then freeze, and so forth.

Its not uncommon for cheap flash drives (mainly usb thumb, but also compactflash) to have write access times in the order half a second. SD should mostly depend on the reader, seeing that its just raw access with the flash controller outside.
