SCE's coming Siren, the scariest game

Just picked this up myself. And it's quite an outstanding piece of work. I'll have to say that this is the type of title that, even if you are positive that it is not "your type" of game, it is worth a rental just to experience it a few hours - because the experience is really interesting and worthwhile.

It can be really tense, I haven't ever played a game just to run away, unless I have to. But in this game, I have to run away in almost complete darkness and always stays in stealth mode. Those "shibito"s are pretty fast when they found you. Really scary.

/Hmmm, the interesting part about the game is that you can transmigrate to another body, other than that seems very much like a game from a SH director.

Posting the above implies that you don't know anything about the game and the SH series.

Great site, maskrider. ^_^ I came across it randomly through Google searching for Soul Calibur II stuff and SH3 stuff before, so it's kinda amusing. Hehe...

MagicBox mentions the latest japanese review: Siren (Sony) - 9, 7, 8, 8 (32 / 40) (Not that I'm positive if what publication or combination thereof they indicate.)

are you implying that it SH+transmigration? in what theme, mechanics or just overall execution?

no, posting the above just means he doesn't like the SH series and thus all similar titles are not likely to appeal to him.

it's not a crime, not alot of ppls liked panzerdragoon or Rez either.

Certainly, ignorant is not a crime, and I don't mean that it is a crime. The games themselves are very different, posting that kind of over generalisation means that he don't know the story and gameplay of both game. I bet he hasn't played the original SH as the director had only directed the original silent hill, which is a bit more cinematic than both SH2 and SH3.

Thank you. Heh heh heh ! My SC2 and SH pages are frequently hit by google as seen from my server referrral log. Even though my site is mainly composed of long pages of images.

There will be English and Chinese (Mandarin) dub for the game from what I've heard. But Mandarin is not for me, my Mandarin is weak, only better than my Japanese.

agreed.

hell I didn't even know that, and I played SH1 almost religoiusly at launch. come to think of it it explains the usage of the crane shots to disoriented the player at the beginning (misty SH).

note that regardless whether he can tell the difference or even likes SH1 and siren is moot. some people just don't like certain types of games.

Edit: hhmm maybe that should read certain implementations of the genre rather than type?

People don't like something is very natural, I certainly don't think that is a problem. You can dislike something even if you don't want to know what that thing is, but posting comment on the detail about that thing when you don't really know it is the problem.

Report by Famitsu.com(original text heavily summarized):

The CM showing for Siren has been stopped effectively on 11th November. The CM timeslots will be replaced by CM for Minna no Golf 4 instead. This is due to comments about "cause of discomfort/upset" from the public.

I wouldn't be surprised about it making people upset/discomfort if it is similar to the promotion video.

I think it is intentional (to raise awareness) as they should have known that Siren is really a disturbing game.

Huh! Had the weirdest nightmare last night (actually I don't have nightmares, cos my dreams are more like movies where I'm an outside spectator, so my nightmares are really just entertaining :) ).

Anyway, this dream must have been because I watched some Siren trailers, as it was like a Japanese horror movie with a group of people ending up (they were lead there by a disturbed cat that was eating it's tail as well as other weird things  ) on an isolated island in the middle of a lake of blood. In the island was some ramschackle village that was populated by some cult of morons who were 'assimilating' some of the visitors. A group of them tried to escape but the bloody lake was filled with half sunk rotten cars and japanese looking long-haired girls with bleeding eyes

I had these dreams after playing SH2 and 3 too.
There's something very disturbing indeed in some of those Siren trailers.

PAL cover already?!

For reference the japanese version:

The PAL box art is pretty cool. Is there a release date ?

I only know that Chinese version will be available in January 04.
