Ryse: Son of Rome [XO]

Looking at the pic of the 3 guys, since I'd never watched the trailer, it definitely suggests 3 player co-op. Co-op and multiplayer gaming does seem to be the strength of the 360, since it is so easy to organize and manage drop in/out games with your friends. You have the tools to communicate, invite and join very easily. Could there be cross-platform play with the PC? Maybe, but I doubt it. It wouldn't be a huge stretch if it ended up being available on games for windows live. Maybe there are some new Live features coming in a fall update or at some point that this game will leverage.

They said that clan support in the dashboard wasn't possible because the 100 friends list was hard coded into some xbox original games. And that they terminated xboxlive original they can probably focus on those features.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Maybe there will be some more features added to friends lists and managing friends, now that they've gotten rid of the legacy system. Clan features would be cool. I'm interested to see more of what this game is supposed to be before I start guessing on what features they feel make the 360 unique.

Edit: I just thought of a really good friend feature so I'm going to write it before I forgot. A smart friends list that tagged friends based on what games you played with them. For instance, all of the guys I play NHL 10 with would have an NHL10 tag, and another friend like Robert would have tags for Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, Gears etc. Then if I was going through my friends list and there was someone I couldn't remember adding, I'd know what games I'd played with them. And you could sort your friends list based on the games you'd played with each person. That way if you were trying to get a group together to play Halo Reach you'd be able to see which friends you'd previously played with them and know which of them were online.

Everything you've mentioned could be run on game servers, platform independently. The only XB360 specific aspect I can think of is cross-platform Live!, so I still feel your original ideas the most likely.

Yes, I was just giving examples of how a semi-persistent world utilizing the features I was brainstorming could be used for a FPS or hack'n'slash.

I have a feeling MS is perhaps excited more than usual because Crytek presented a way they could tie the game into Windows Mobile 7. Which brings to mind managing clans (clan management would be huge if it could be done at anytime anywhere), managing holdings in a semi-persistent world, etc...

Perhaps even a training mini-game (player stats for hack'n'slash) and gladiator combat in arena's on WinMo 7. It would be optional but give a slight advantage in multiplayer if you could "beef up" your character while away from the console.

It seems a website has found a possible artwork for Codename:kingdoms.
The music composer, and artwork designer Agnes Staudt developed by Crytek Budapest has published on its website a lot of fantasy images as artworks, which date from 2009 and presenting an unfinished game to Crytek.

The author says "Unfinished Project". I doubt its Kingdoms, as he clearly say these are pics he is allowed to publish as these r from an unfinished project. Cevat also mentioned that there are numerous cancelled projects at Crytek. Most prbly its from one of them. They do look amazing though !

Kingdoms release next year?
Q: Because it seems that a lot of the current large IP is sequels. There hasn't been a big new exclusive IP for a while.

Neil Thompson:I don't think that there's a barrier. In some ways it gets easier as you're as broad a platform as we are now. Investing in big IP, be they new or second or third iterations of existing ones, is easier when you know you have a bigger base. It's harder when you're first launching a console because you have to make a bigger investment.

Stephen McGill:Obviously we're not going to announce any third-party products on their behalf, but one that we've announced, that we're going to be developing with Crytek, is Kingdoms. That's a brand new IP that has a really good future next year.

It lives! Small snippets of Codename Kingdoms info surface via Cevat Yerli interview at CVG

Asked when we'd learn more about the mysterious title - revealed at E3 2010 with a video featuring a bloodied gladiator - he initially told CVG: "I can't really talk about that at the moment, maybe at E3, maybe before, I don't know yet."

While he wouldn't comment on the nature of the game, Yerli told us that the developer wants Kingdoms to max out Xbox 360's capabilities.

"... I think when we put Crysis 2 out we will show a level that is, multiplatform-wise, maxing out, but we will look into with Microsoft how Kingdoms can push the Xbox 360 110 percent, to its limits.

"When you're spending a multimillion budget only on the Xbox 360, that team will be able to crank out the last two or three percent left in the console. But I think that two or three percent will make the difference potentially between day and night that you cannot afford if you go multiplatform."

Nice! Definitely seems more of a tech showcase, and not an RTS.

Sounds like Microsoft's rumored pushes to maximize 360 hardware (there was even supposedly a team dedicated to it) may not be entirely fable.

Hope to get some more info GDC next month with this and BF3:) reveal i think i will be satisfied with gaming news on GDC.
Edit: please cryteck dont make kinect prime input device for puzzles and mini games okey but if im suppose to be a gladiator then i want to use my controller

That is probably Firebird studio supposably also working on a game that was back in feb 2010.

Ah, like squeezing blood from a rock (or brick? :p ). It is a pretty ancient piece of hardware though.

Yes I dont actually believe Firebird studio exists, almost certainly a myth.

But MS could certainly be trying to combat some of these high budget PS3 exclusives in production values a bit more here and there. From the beginning I recall even MS suits framing Codename as a graphics pusher.

I love Crytek. Imo they are THE most graphics pushing developer on a general basis. Although I think Id with Doom 4 is a jedi yet to be seen...

It'll be interesting to see how much more Crytek can push from the X360 in this versus Crysis 2 which has to run on multiple platforms.

As Crytek is generally fairly open about things, it'll also be interesting to see a post launch interview with them to see what they could do in Codename: Kingdoms versus Crysis 2, due to not having to maintain feature parity on PS3 and X360.

I wonder how they're handling the development, with at least the core staff located here in Budapest. The few very good graphics coders I knew about have mostly moved to foreign countries, but there may be some others; nevertheless it's still more likely that engine optimization will be handled in the central offices in Germany. At least the time zone is the same and with high speed internet it shouldn't be much different from working in the same building.
And these are still the guys behind Warhead so there's definitely a good possibility for great results.

Crytek has shown they can choke a high end PC, so I doubt it's a big deal for them to choke a console.

Crytek's PR blabber is kind of annoying (as is every other dev's). I realize their primary focus is selling their technology, but I wish they would just STFU and release games. You know, let the product speak for itself?

I suppose part of the problem is that it's a big deal considering exclusivity and it's "Crytek", so MS would want people to be a bit excited that it's in the works. But at the same time it is so far away that people are just being teased to no end about it. So he has to say something, and generally it's obvious stuff. He probably should have stopped before mentioning the "110%" hyperbole though. The rest is sounds reasonable, but yeah it's still all just empty speak until we see anything, as you were saying.

It'll be interesting anyway. At the very least I would expect improvements along the lines of the "usual" memory and polygon setup advantages we already know about. Their improvement to the 3Dc/DXN texture encoding is promising.

Hard to say. I mean, it already seems like they're bending over backwards just to optimize the LPVs in their SSGI. And we already know about the normal map encoding improvements. It would be curious to see if their collaboration with Microsoft will result in the latter's inclusion in the XDK since it's a general purpose tool i.e. an improved method for encoding the normal maps versus the ATI/AMD one.
