Ryse: Son of Rome [XO]

Just rewatched the first 20 min of ms conference and it seems they have a exclusive title from Cryteck.

Trailer

And the trailer reminded my of a medieval looking glimpse we got in the cryengine 3 demo. Could this footage show a potential level and design.

Kingdoms release next year?
Q: Because it seems that a lot of the current large IP is sequels. There hasn't been a big new exclusive IP for a while.

Stephen McGill:Obviously we're not going to announce any third-party products on their behalf, but one that we've announced, that we're going to be developing with Crytek, is Kingdoms. That's a brand new IP that has a really good future next year.

Hmm. Will it be a hack n slash game? I'd like to more of the gameplay.

On an unrelated note, I don't care for the new Xbox 360 logo at the end of trailers/commercials. It looks sort of like projectile vomit.

Didn't look like a shooter from the vid, but it's hard to tell.

I wonder if Fran is working on this title, or Crysis 2, or both?

I'd agree with that. There really isn't much difference between the consoles, except for some extra features Xbox Live carries that PSN doesn't. But I'm not sure how those things would really change the design of the game. Maybe they figure it's easier to make a drop-in, drop-out game on 360 and that's the difference.

Perhaps it's a semi-persistent online world, and you'll be notified via XBL if your holdings are under attack? Even when in other games, etc... And that can easily extend to notifications in Windows (through Live Messenger) and text notication on cell phones (again Live Messenger).

Expand that to a clan system, with clan support though XBL and again notifications through XBL, and perhaps extending to alliances and whatnot. And if clan holdings are threatened, it maybe could automatically (option toggle, so player has a choice) form a XBL group of all clan members that are online at the time?

Just thinking out of the box here. It's probably not that, but would be interesting.

Cant wait to see whats all that about, probably something like GOW...thats how it looked like.
Still wonderin why would MS make partnership with Crytek for game that looks like it wont be FPS.IF they dont make it with spears and stone slingers which I seriously doubt they will:LOL: If they want it for graphics(and it sounded like that) maybe they could just use CE3 and make new studio, they have shit load of money, they could buy 10 of them just for XBL yearly revenue and it would use them well for now and for next gen.

I thought it would be a action game?

If it's an RTS/hybrid type thing, I lose interest...

Any reason you think so? Did the trailer reveal something I missed?

There was an interview at E3 with a microsoft guy that said it was a 3rd person action game. I wouldn't expect anything crazy on the multiplayer side, other than maybe drop-in and out with 4 players or something. Maybe they'll surprise me.

So probably 360 first hack and slash exclusive...great! :D

That makes sense, seeing as MS talked about that sort of Live integration pre this generation. You could have a game with contributing players on XB360, PC and mobiles, all contributing in different ways, which is something unique to Live!.

That said, maybe it's just an action game with drop-in 4 player - something not unique to the platform but since when are PR quotes realistic?! ;)

Story is probably generic, gods are angry on humanity and the nations have to work together to beat the gods minions. At least that's what i got from the trailer.

We probably get to choose out of 3 classes.
Gladiator(spartan?) a hybrid class with sword and shield.
Centurion(soldier?) A tank archtype with the big shield.
barbarian(viking?) A full offensive archtype.

the end of the trailer has 3 characters.

Well, holding and aquiring territory isn't limited only to RPG's and RTS's. There's no reason a semi-persistent world couldn't be created around a FPS or hack'n'slash or whatever.

Integrate some simplistic strategy features like developing your territory to increase money, research for new weapons, perhaps base defenses (turrets in a FPS), perhaps offensive siege engines (third person hack and slash)...

Integrate a level editor and being able to create your own "home turf" level for multiplayer challenges.

Anyway, like I said just thinking outside the box to imagine what X360 strengths that could be leveraged. (not the examples in this post above, but in the original post Rangers replied to. :))

Also, semi-persistent holdings and online clans would also fit well with integration into Windows Mobile 7's support for Xbox Live.

Everything you've mentioned could be run on game servers, platform independently. The only XB360 specific aspect I can think of is cross-platform Live!, so I still feel your original ideas the most likely.

I think that that "Unique to 360 platform" is part of interview known as bullshit and in the end it wont be any RTS,FPS,Live...it will be action adventure game just like MS said on E3
