Star Citizen, Roberts Space Industries - Chris Roberts' life support and retirement fund [2012-]

Wow nice! Finally, the roadmap. I've been really waiting for that roadmap. Can't wait to get my hands on that roadmap and read it. Feels almost like playing the game itself!

I'm honestly doubtful we'll get an actual release date for Squadron 42.
It'll probably be an actual milestone roadmap like:
Q2 2019: Motion Capture with actors ends
Q4 2019: post-production of cutscenes ends
H2 2020: level design for SQ42 finalizes
H1 2021: big breakthrough on A.I.

etc. etc., without ever providing an actual release date.

Sure, they may have lots of Motion Capture data from famous actors because Chris Roberts wants to be a high-profile hollywood director (this time it's round 2 because he already failed with the Wing Commander movie).
I doubt 2019 is even SQ42's last year of development, even if they stopped all the MMO stuff and focused on finishing the game.
The AI seems to be either missing or at an incredibly early stage:

Of course CIG has to work on the fight AI and they know that themselves.

About the lowlights video. This was just a temporary build and I think it's good not to polish it too much. That would be a waste of time. CIG could play only one video but they are always do it in real time. I've tested several games in alpha, beta and NDA phase and that's nothing unusual. In the past (early 2000s) I used to have no or only a green picture on PC games after they were released. Today some of these games are celebrated. But today you can't do that with a full version anymore. I only think of Mass Effect Andromeda.... No, I'd rather give CIG more time than something like that happens to them.

We get a roadmap in December .

Isn't that what they said last year too lol.

A new flight model is great as its much needed. However they lead this thing with a $700 ship and they showed off a ship that will be easily in the mid $1,000 range.

This demo was embarrassing as hell. The trailer looked decent, I'll admit (although the writing was a bit cringe). But my god this demo was so shit with basic features not working at all. And the worst thing about the demo: how fucking boring will this game be. Nothing happens. There is just no gameplay at all. Watched some yt vids counting glitches during the demo...lol. It is like a car crash...you have to watch it, although you don't want to...

The blandness of it all was the worst. I sped up most parts of it.

As usual, tell and not show on the things that would make a difference. The bar isn't full of interesting characters and quest opportunities. Just a really wonky bartender and a broken object placement system.

Their more fleshed out city consists of boring open areas with no npc interaction, linked by generic corridors and scifi's most boring train ride.

Compare to the livelyness of any open world game in this gen it's pathetic.

Maybe next year! When their tech's all working!

Yes, they did exactly that a year ago.

Chris Roberts - October 2017 said:
Squadron 42 will be the focus of our Holiday Livestream in December, where we will preview some gameplay and share our roadmap for its completion.

And this itself was made a year after October 2016 when they took down the SQ42 release year in their webpage which they were claiming would be.. 2016.

To think tomorrow will be the 6th-year anniversary of me pledging $60 for this thing.. When I was convinced I would be getting a spiritual successor to Wing Commander somewhere in 2015 (already not believing their 2014 promise of that time).

No, no.. you see, it's a good thing they presented a demo with missing stuff that shows how far behind they are from releasing an actual game, because they "shouldn't waste time on that build".

Looks solid for the first implementation. Many Players will have a lot fun with it.

That depends on what is defined as gameplay. I see a lot of gameplay there. Where can I jump out of a spaceship with a ground vehicle and shoot at enemies? There are a lot of people who have to be told exactly what they need to do. Sea of Thiefs also got a lot of negative reactions. Until just a few moments ago I in a Hammerhead-Corvette and that was just an awesome experience with the small team (although one turret had a bug and couldn't be controlled sufficiently). The Hammerhead is slow but it's excellent for defending other ships.

Hammerhead tour

One of my favorite ships.

I thought what was shown was good and I found nothing boring in the corridors since that is the closest to Blade Runner I can get in a game. Of Course CIG needs to work on AI and NPCs etc. The bugs were not problematic and they showed what will be new in the next update which will be released in a month or so. They could have shown much more gameplay like the polished mining but Hurston is the focus in 3.3.5. Cyberpunk 2077s gameplay also had lots of bugs and it didn't bother me.

No one has paid any money for Cyberpunk yet.

Still better than getting bored with the 20th COD etc. while hoping that at some point the publishers will give me the game I really want. It still can fail but there is a slowly and steadily progress. Even if only Squadron 42 is playable at some point I have reached my goal with my investment. There is nothing else like SC and there's nothing else that there's even a slight chance of if it because of the safety-first mentality of publishers. I cannot follow these complaints since there is not a real alternative that makes it better. At most Elite Dangerous but that is factually the same as the X-Series but closer to a space trucker simulator. It is fun but still the same as before. In a publisher financed game the financier mostly goes in advance when he expects a profit (but at least not a loss). Moreover, nobody knows before how well the product actually sells and therefore one operates to get a maximum of the target group by thinking how they can reach as many people as possible to get the costs back in doubt. This is done by playing it safe with gameplay, design, as well as hardware requirements. One wants to cover the investments as good as possible through the sales and ideally also gets off some profit which one cannot ensure if he potentially cuts the target group. With crowdfunding/early access this changes. Good examples are PUBG or Conan Exiles. These games would have been hardly created in this form. The fact that SC exists in this form is more than extraordinarily. Personally I don't understand this constant recurring annoyances since we don't have a better chance for such a game otherwise. And obviously there are many people who see many reasons why they also want to have such a game. Or at least see that someone tries it. If I want to be on the safe side I go to Origin, Uplay, Steam etc. Not that there are bad games but they are also partly extremely exchangeable. I know AC Origins and I dont need the next one anymore. If I know a Tomb Raider I don't need to play a GoW, Uncharted etc.

I think the SC/SQ42 are shaping up great, the tech work is amazing and the entire experience is slowly but surely materializing into a fun product. When 3.3 arrives to everyone, I'll be for sure checking it out. So far I was content with just purchasing base package [years ago] and then patiently waiting for more SC/SQ42 updates. The game is now in the place where I could actually play it and enjoy it, see few quests, explore, learn the basics. Fun times are ahead. :)

I remember riding hyper rockets like I think (correct me if I'm wrong) Jupiter is riding. I have been on that rocket and it never goes up to the lofty heights my imagination has raised the game to. The hype rocket always falls short, it always runs out of fuel and ends up somewhere below what I want and wish and hope for.

Don't ride hype rockets. Ride hype trains, because they always get to a station. :D

Squadron 42 trailer
At least half that is lifted straight from the 'vertical slice' from a couple years back if not all of it.
Edit: OK watched the vertical slice again (also apparently that was only 9mths ago?), less of that trailer is from it than I thought, but I've definitely seen a bunch of that before, I guess from previous trailer stuff.

For the annual big conference where you're charging people to attend/watch the live stream?
On the one hand with it being that buggy I can understand them not wanting to make it publicly viewable to minimise the 'holy shit this many years in & its still broken as fuck' & heck, those guys who paid are obviously already in it for $$$, 'we could show them video of CR throwing their money in a loo, pooping on it & then setting it on fire and they'd still cheer'.
On the other hand THEY'RE STILL PRESENTING BROKEN AS FUCK SCRIPTED & LITERALLY ON RAILS MISSIONS and they charged people to watch that.

Worse, as the lowlights video points out the gameplay looks super un-fun which has always been a big concern for me.
The bit where it took over an hour to get out to the mission spot (btw the lip-synch of the guy giving the mission was broken as well), then magically when he called for support the guys turned up in like 30s is totally un-credible.
We're supposed to believe that those support guys were your friends who turned up because you called them in as if that is a thing that could actually happen ingame.
Reality: big queue of ppl at the window waiting for that guy to give them all that same mission, teams of Goons hanging by the spawns waiting to grief people. Oops, forgot there is only 50ppl per server so thats not going to be an actual thing

Also multi-tool is going to be a thing so everyones going to be able to repair/mining etc, so much for specialised playstyles...

Regarding medical stuff: you can buy a 'medipen' that patches wounds so you don't immediately die, but you gotta go to a hospital to get properly fixed, or you will eventually bleed out & ... respawn in the hospital

They could have also shown single person mining but I think thats not as interesting to watch for many people:

Transporting goods is also possible but that would probably not be exciting to watch either.

The patch will be released in a month or so and then it will be more polished. Apart from that, most of the bugs were NPC bugs and that doesn't bother me in alpha status. I'm bothered by crashes and a non-functioning UI.

btw the lip-synch of the guy giving the mission was broken as well

Does not look that off-sync to me:

I played PTU 3.3 today a bit, performance is.... kinda great!

Gtx1070@1440p 50-60 in all places except high-detailed stations. I finally played few missions, made a trade run, and after getting accustomed to the controls and the flow of the gameplay, I can see why so many people are purchasing expensive ships. Even I got a sligtht temptation to upgrade to Aegis Titan.

Crashes are still common though, I'll wait until 3.35 [new planets!] to play more, but what I saw today was very promising.

I had only crashes at Olisar. When I left Olisar I often could play hours until 30000 server errors occurred. Hopefully the public versio will fix some of these errors. For me the average performance in 3.3 increased by 30-50 % while mimimum fps more than tripled. With a 4790k or so one gets about 35fps at the "brutal" Levski mining station (otherwise mostly about 50-60fps) while a 8700k guarantees 50+fps. 8700k plus GTX 1080 is the 1080p/60fps combination.
