Resistance I-8 GDC footage and better R&C footage also

Warhawk has some nice elements, love the clouds and water. Combat looks a bit clunky though...

R&C looks very impressive, definitely the most impressive thing shown. Hopefully the game will look just as good as this tech demo.

Motorstorm looks nothign like the E3 footage that was supposedly real-time. The particle effects and environments are seriously lacking.

In concerns to Motor Storm Phil Harrison said that it was only the technologhy that was shown and not the game, he said wait till E3 for the game ;)

An evaluation is. I doubt Resistance is using it, but who knows? I'd say they would have mentioned it by now if they were, though.
 
I just noticed that Resistance isn't using any physics. When the enemies get hit they just fall to the ground (similar to a current gen game), no rag doll physics going on.

Turned off for demo purposes maybe?

I'm frankly wondering what the purpose was with the resistance demo it didn't show anything specific unlike the other demo's
 
Not only is Resistance technically uninspiring (PS2.5 anyone? j/k), it also looks incredibly unfun.

Motostorm is passable, but that's about it.

R&C looks pretty damn good, and you can tell it is real-time with shadows and cars popping in.

Warhawk looks smooth, but not exactly mind-blowing.

As of that demo, they weren't using any SPUs (it was a Dec 05 build). They talked about how they'd been transitioning code to the SPUs and how they were able to do a lot more, and you'd see that at E3.

Not confirmed to be using it, though it's one school of thought.
 
Just saw the new vids..

Warhawk looks good (nice water and clouds), but pretty empty..

I-8 looks ok..just a bit bland looking..you can tell its very early from the effects and animation.

Motorstorm , no comment.

Ratchet and Clank video..now that I can see it clearly I think its totally rendered real-time, but I doubt the environments will be that big and populated in the actual game.

I would recommend that people watch both vids from the GDC with respect to resistance fall of man. There is this vid the has the visuals and then there is the multiplayer.it vid that has the developer narration of what's going on and what is meant to be converyed by the demo. There are things Insomniac says that bear consideration...

1) This is a build of the game that was a few months old. RSX may not have available for a little pre-GDC play time and...
2) During the presentation it is noted that for the build on display they were primarily reliant on the PPE and at the time of the conference they were just then moving tasks over to the SPEs. No surprise they also note they found that they can get great deal more of everything going on in their games with every task taken off the PPE and placed on the SPEs. It stand to reason then that this demonstration didn't represent the best of Insomniac's work to date at that time.

It should also be considered that the demo was still a technology demo despite Insomniac showing off a bit of the gameplay. What I saw a corridor full of NPC with rudimentary AI...that still had pretty decent lighting etc going on but really...this wasn't at the level of say a trailer one would present at E3...in a few months no doubt.

It just seems to me people are being a bit harsh. I mean the previous E3 trailer showed off more than this and was more than believably achievable. It really doesn't make sense that they would be going backwards, but instead really didn't show off more than the technology considered they were in fact at the game developer's conference.

I don't mean to sound apologetic...we'll perhaps I do...I don't know but it seems Resistance:Fall of Man may be getting a raw deal with the footage now being available for public consumption.

The demo was using physics. It's just that this video is extremely short, so you can't really see much, if anything.

I agree that I don't really see the point for Insomniac to demonstrate this particular part of the game, though.

Holy shit, did you guys see the video were LAIR was moved around in real time???
LAIR has moved up to one of the most wanted games on my list now :D

I didn't see anything relating to LAIR. I did see Heavenly Sword demo.
