Red Alert 2 coming to DS?

Oh please please please say its true!!!!!!

Red Alert 2 is still probably my favourite RTS game. Generals was too easy near the end with its weapons of mass destruction and all the new RTS games just seem poor to me (they just seem to have no soul to them).

I agree, this game is perfect for DS (its a perfect RTS system IMO) and will really show off its capabilities.

So would DS be ok with these kind of visuals?:

I'd love to see the results with a diablo II port.

*head line news: 1000s of DS screens destroyed!*

Sure. But that pic is at about 6x the resolution of one DS screen, isn't it? I have a feeling RTSes will have their work cut out for them from a presentation standpoint, because it's kind of hard to achieve graphics even like that with as much of a viewing area as most RTSes want. It'll likely want to do a lot of clever resizing on the fly.

Well, you also could have a closer up angle on the top screen and one further away on the touch screen, or vice-versa.

I don't think this will be much of a problem: the fiirst REd Alert had a max. resolution of 640x480 and C&C 1 was fine with 320x240...

Yeah but they were generally played on bigger screens. And looked like ass.

Well, I am sure there'S going to be a pixalated mess. But we can live with it, more or less. AS for graphics those games looked ok for their time. BTW I want a port of Jagged Alliance goddamnit! (Hi! My name is Steve! I am a major JA, JA:DG, JA2, JA2:UB, etc. addict...)

Thank God, I am one of those peaceful karma-loving new fuckers (well not really) or I would have sent my droogies over to tolchok you. (Hi! My name is Steve. I am Clockwork Orange addict)...

Err, the source says Red Alert 3, so it's more likeable to be a new game, IF it isn't a hoax since the source says it hasn't been confirmed.

"Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 voor de Nintendo DS verschijnt ergens laat in 2005 en bestaat officieel nog niet. De afbeeldingen die je ziet zijn overigens niet van Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, maar van een ander Command & Conquer spel."

I would much rather want to see Red Alert 1 appear on Nintendo DS, I have some very fond memories of that game. :)

But is this game going to work in real-time?

What do you mean?

I mean the way the gameplay works. Will it be real-time command inputs (pretty hard with a small resolution and large map), or will they opt for some kind of 'input-while-paused' or 'input-while-slowing-down-gameplay-temporarily' system?

Red Alert 2 was a very fast paced game, I don't know if the screen and the stylus are up for the exact same gameplay method.

Oh i see... Personally i've always found RTSs very boring so i wouldn't know what the best approach should be...

Yeah the pic is at a higher resolution in order to make it easily visible even to people with very high res monitors.

As far as viewing area goes I think the best way to do it is as follows. The main interactive screen (where you control you're troops) would have a lesser viewing area then a PC RTS but the same kind of detail. While the top screen would have less detail but twice the amount of viewing area (zoomable right out to a map view).

Take out you're DS (if you have one) and just imagine that top pic on the bottom screen. I don't see any problem with controlling that in realtime. In fact it sounds great to me. Far better then having to control such a game on a normal console with a game pad, that's for sure.
