I said wow.... can't freaking wait to see gt like this, this Checkerboard algo is really something

With only 4 tf hitting anything close to 4k esque image quality even by cutting out some of the raw native resolution work is really astounding.

Hats off to the engineers who made this even remotely possible

Wowza, at this point even next gen consoles should employ this technique to reach 4k while use the massively saved up power for advanced graphics rendering. Brute forcing native 4k is almost "dumb" if I may for any device.

The only small amount of differences I could make out is the spider web in the cave and Lara's clothing all seemed sharper. I think checkerboarding can't resolve small alpha coverage details as well as native 4k can, but then again PC Ultra by default has slightly higher res textures to begin with which also helps. But overall the two look astonishingly similar.

The whole screen looked quite clearly sharper to me. Maybe it's a difference in our display devices/distances? I was viewing on a 27" monitor from about 3 foot.

But the hardware difference is much smaller with the XBS.

- +24% for the bandwidth

But Phil Spencer said scorpio is gonna run xb1 games faster/better too.

Just watched the gamersyde Ratchet & Clank via browser at 1080P. I don't know how it compares to the original game but now i'd say this is the type of visuals I expect from a linear PS4 game. Very nice looking!

Excellent point, perhaps this s how we'll be able to hit 8k in VR. The high framerates should make it an extremely viable option.

4K checkerboard is not enough... checkerboard doubles pixels. 8K = four times more pixels than 4K. You need to render at 2x 4K resolution to checkerboard up to 8K. Not even Pascal Titan manages to render at 2x 4K at high enough frame rate. We need to still wait for 8K checkerboard

What are your first impressions? I'll be installing a 2Tb HDD then restoring a terabyte of backups from an external drive so I won't be using my Pro today. Roll on the weekend and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Tell us about the placebo effect in the pro version of BF1 (Microsoft probably paid Dice to prevent them telling about the Pro improvements and delay the Pro patch, because all others big games had already their patches out before the release of the machine...).

Please try TR2 with the 60fps mode too.

OK just got done with some Rise of the Tomb Raider and Ratchet & Clank, still downloading Pro patches for other games currently so it will take time and PSN is heavily smashed. But so far so good, really like the checkerboarding on TR, makes the texture so much sharper, iq is pristine with barely any jaggies in sight. R&C also looked fabulous with Insomniac's own technique, iq looks noticeably better than OG PS4's tho HDR is what impresses me the most. In fact R&C on the Pro with HDR and frame injection is my current demo disc for the Pro. I used the Extended Dynamic Contrast from my Z9D on the TR and the result actually looks really good, since the feature is Object based HDR simulation, it's much better than having it off. I will try BF1 tomorrow since it's 2am here but I am as impatiently anticipating it as you guys are. Here are some pics just for tonight.

I was moving data from old PS4 to Pro over gigabit ethernet, it was 500GB of data and it took 2 hours.

I thought the external drive would be as quick - or at least no slower. Never mind, the weekend starts tomorrow!

This is second restore I've done this week. To prepare for today, earlier in the week I deleted a bunch of stuff on my PS4's 2Tb HDD (stuff I can re-install fast from disc) and backed it up to a 1Tb HDD. Then I put another 1Tb HDD into the PS4 and restored from the backup to that so I could use the PS4 in the meantime. The 2Tb is now in the Pro.

I'll be selling my original PS4 so I'll be putting the original 512Gb HDD in that this week. So much console HDD swapping! I do like the look of the Pro. I was never a fan of the two-tone launch PS4, nor the light bar on the top.

Maybe in still shots, I doubt the effect is the same in motion though, even on PC, with FXAA, MSAA, (even TXAA), and downsampling from 4X resolution all running simultaneously, motion aliasing is often noticeable in many games.
