Closer look at the Future of Play event

edit - One Gaffer with 4K HDR screen from Germany has managed to get his hands on a Pro. He is very satisfied with T2. Share button PNGs [Now we know that 4K shots will take 10megs per pic]

And a comparison:

PS4 PRO (downscaled to 1080p)

PS4 Standard (Direct capture from DF Faceoff)

Big increase in texture detail, aliasing and quality of distant objects.

Are we certain it's not a difference due to the 2 screens being from different distances?

I'm pretty sure it's an overall improvement to sharpness and clarity, because I can see a clear difference even in close objects, like the glove/gun.

I mean the resolution is probably being close to doubled then scaled back (edit: nm, I dunno the rendering resolution of T2 on Pro, mistook it for a different game). Having done some video encoding of high resolution sources and scaling them down, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there's a pretty significant difference.

This makes the Pro a lot more attractive. Most people don't have big enough screens to benefit hugely from native 4K anyway. 1080p with super-sampling and improved visuals can make a pretty big difference, and a worthy enough reason to upgrade for even 1080p display owners.

Only thing stopping me is that I don't play games nearly as often as I used to, and the price here in Canada is a tougher pill to swallow at $500. I'll probably pick one up next year on Black Friday or the next big sale.

Since this is a more demanding scene in the game this is probably 720p on the PlayStation 4 vs. 1080p on the PlayStation 4 Pro. Its good but I would not call it stunning. The TAA is indeed really good.

You're assuming it just happens to drop to the absolute lowest the PS4 is capable of dropping to in that scene? It doesn't look particularly taxing to me, at least compared to how the game can really get chaotic at times. DF says the PS4 version spends most of its time at around 1000p, but I would agree that the standard PS4 shot does look like it's sub-1000p.

The game in itself is not what I would consider stunning. Judging by screens people have posted at GAF of the PC version running at max with TSAA and resolutions >1080p, it definitely looks like the PS4P is running higher than 1080p.

in the tomb raider trailer they say they use hardware tessellation, does that mean the standard ps4 has no HW tessellation ?

I would love to see a downsampled Killzone SF for ps4pro

Both XB1 and Ps4 don't use tessellation in RotTR but it is a feature for select geometry on PC. I guess they just turned that on.

There's actually more aliasing in the PC shot but then it's a bit of a weird comparison as they turned off TSAA on the PC version which will naturally introduce more aliasing. 4K or not, TSAA always stays on!

DF says that T2 on PS4 runs between 1000p and 720p. Pro probably renders the game somewhere near 1440p, so 1080p TV users will get much better IQ.

The gafer posted some UC4 screenshots, and i took a screenshot in almost the exact same spot. Unfortunately UC4 seems to be one of the least impressive Pro ports. And brightness/contrast is again messed up (maybe the HDR setting).

Seems like ND half-assed the pro version of UC4 :nope:
Can anyone simulate what the 1080p version will look like and downsample the image? What's up with the color difference too? The ps4 pro screenshot is more vibrant.

What looks wrong with the Pro brightness/contrast?
Just asking as I would had assumed it should be like that, although TV reviews testing both HDR10 and Dolby Vision report the Dolby setup is 'darker', just mentioning and I appreciate the PS4 Pro only supports HDR 10 but wondering if the brightness/contrast fits in with your perception of that game being again messed up.
Cheers

I dont get whats the problem with the Pro version. Looks better to me

It should be a lot better than that in most Pro ports. See T2 for example, or R&C. I'm not even sure if ND are using checkerboard 2160p or 1800p.

Edit: For example, R&C with temporal injection at 4k 1:1 crop

Uncharted 4 with ? at 4k 1:1 crop

Difference between the two should be obvious.
