Actually from reading on Neogaf the number is 16 cars (can be seen plainly in one of the screen shots!).

Also it seems to be confirmed (from the confrance) that the garage was done ingame (you can see screenshot of Kaz I think navigating some of the menus of GT5 prolouge on stage).

From what i know actually, in multiplayer the number of cars is decreased to 12....but maybe i'm wrong
