[PS3] Resistance 3 [SPOILER ALERT - Contains R2 story discussion]

Does someone have a quote or link about the no coop? I just find it hard to believe that the one thing that seemed to be universally liked in R2 would be cut without explanation. If so, a dumb move imho.

no more 8 player co-op? That was the best part of R2 and I know a lot of people will agree with me. I don't see the logic in getting rid of that feature.

All about focus... we determined early on we wanted to focus on certain things and make them the best possible. Moving co-op back into the campaign helped us do that.

One last question, was R2 p2p? If it was server based and they're now going p2p then at least I could understand better. I may not agree but at least I would understand.

Should have gotten the All4One team to extend it.

The workaround is to advertise and keep R2 MP alive in the mean time.

I have to agree with Rolf N, that the R2 coop was what I hoped for future coop in all games.
I never tried Borderlands, how does the coop there compare to R2?
It's really not quite the same, though you have the basic elements of XP and gaining levels and skills in the frame of a good fps. That's as far as the similarities go though. Borderlands is a proper single-player game with co-op layered on as an option. Namely there's no dependence on a team in Borderlands, as each class can function alone. You also have a big connected RPG game world which you unravel bit by bit, with hub sections, settlements and side-quests and caverns and mines and all that.

It's mostly about the randomly generated guns you find as loot. Finding incremental upgrades for your arsenal is a good carrot. It's a really cool game, got me hooked good for a while.

I just really love RPG shooters, and there are far too few of them. Resistance 2 co-op really was something special.

It was all server based I believe, do not know what R3 will do.

Funny if they end up getting a lot of flack for removing 8p coop this time around and last time they got flack for removing the weapons wheel :)

No 8 player co-op is a real dampner :( ! Wasn't it the best thing after R1 ?

I prefer having a seperate co-op campaign which doesn't compromise my SP campaign. I was very scared when early Uncharted2 shots always showed Chloe along with Drake suggesting co-op in SP. I heaved a sigh of relief when they informed us that co-op is seperate from the campaign. Similarly,I was very happy with R2's seperate co-op offering. Removing it is a step backwards IMO.

Here I was imagining an improved co-op mode where we could define custom missions in preset maps and we end up with the news that there's no co-op at all :( ! Insomniac is lacking confidence and its not a good sign. If there's no co-op then why are they taking one extra year to complete it ?

I do have to mention that I like the new direction taken in visuals. Tge boat scenes are looking very good aesthetically, i mean the balance of colour and atmosphere seems very very good. Look a little "Silent Hill"-y though .

I don't know what it is, but I know that the online implementation was flawless for me:

I always played with my buddy who lives in the US!! (I am in Europe) coop and MP together. We did not experience one problem with online: lag, voice chat, party system all was perfect.

Would be interesting to learn how the implemented their online?!

I think IG will draw flak whatever they do with R3. The point is that though R:FOM fans were dissappointed with the changes made in R2, BUT there were a lot many people who had not played R:FOM and they loved R2 for what it was. A lot of my friends bought the PS3 pretty late and never got a chance to play R:FOM, but they are avid fans of R2.

Removing 8 player co-op and 60 player MP will lead to ire from Resistance 2 fans, as those were the very features that defined R2. Once brought into the franchise, they shouldn't have removed them. People were waiting for a better Co-op and more polished MP, but instead we are being served what other games are already providing heaps of.

The defining features of R:FOM was the circle strafing around Chimera and the 4 quadrant health bar. The defining features of R2 were 8 player co-op and 60 player Skirmishes.

Insomniac seems to have decided to serve the R:FOM fans with R3, but come to think of it, R2 sold much more than R:FOM. So, l;ogically there are more fans of R2 than R:FOM out there and anyways the future of games seems to online socialisation and co-opetition. Games are incorporating online in sweet new ways like LBP, Demon's Souls, NFS:Hot Pursuit and KZ3 with its mission based MP mode where your characters, with name tags n all, appearing in cutscenes. Insomniac seems to have taken a step too defensive.

I am a R:FOM fan more than an R2 fan. But I can't shake the feeling that I'll be getting an Alan Wake like Product, a polished but same old experience, rather than improvement of the mighty mechanics they had showcased in R2 online.

Yeah, I hope they keep R2 running, and, if possible, have a separate team to extend the co-op after R3 is out.

R2 competitive MP modes are not that different from RFOM. The major differences are weapon wheel + secondary fire, and weapon spawns. I have a feeling there is a middle ground there. But naturally, we need to play for real to appreciate the differences.

R2 SP is different from RFOM SP. I personally prefer RFOM because it's better paced, and more flexible (No "Hey, you should use this weapon next" hints in-game). RFOM SP also supports co-op, which many should be happy.
