From the videos of the beta, the Seaside map looks quite a lot like SOCOM4 in the way surfaces look, I mean the shaders. Maybe they use similar techniques.
Insomniac revealed more in Comic-con:

Looks like a promo game to generate buzz. Still targeting the same audience.
How 'bout some Ratchet and Clank web games ? If done right, it should help boost sales of existing R&C titles.
I have to say, R3 is looking seriously outdated compared to what most other devs are pumping out of the PS3. They should simply rewrite a new engine after this and maybe hire some new technical lead to stay competitive. Man this is one game that would benefit greatly from KZ3's engine.
That's not all that matters*, especially from a developer with a pedigree of pushing hardware. It's as much Insomniac's fault for setting high standards previously that people's expectations aren't being met, hence the disappointment. Why are you guys making such a big deal out of it?Ok,its sub hd,its a bit blurry, but so what?Game looks quite atmospheric and fun, that is all that matters.
Yea,I said it the wrong way.Its not all that matters, but aside for lowered resolution its not exactly bad looking game.Artstyle got upped pretty good, lighting seems better, textures too. They added motion blur, smoke looks quite thick for PS3 game, there are alot of enemies and the playground is rather big.But if they don't like it and they expected miracles they have only themselves to blame for disappointment.Honestly, what to expect from Insomniac? They are stretching themselves to thin IMO.Making 3 games at once is never a great idea if you are eying for graphics awards(and they aren't) but some people here expected wonders where looking at it realistically, they shouldn't have. That's not all that matters*, especially from a developer with a pedigree of pushing hardware. * That is, graphics count for something even if they aren't the-be-all-and-end-all. If other games can offer atmospheric fun and better quality visuals, in this competitive market those games will have an edge saleswise.

BTW I'm kind of more disappointed in some other things, not about graphics.More about stiff animations, especially when shooting,it seems like 1st wave games this generation.
Isn't frame rate uncapped?Like,up to 60fps indoors and drops outdoors?Well, I don't discuss the game quality but to insomniac I'd expected more about graphic tech... QAA, 960x704p, 30 fps & low buffer... what the hell going on here... just reminds to the old port from 360 to ps3...

R3 also got an extra year of dev time compare to the previous game, make everything even more disappointing to me when it comes to tech. Earlier of this gen, Insomniacs talked about the SPU usage and many things about the PS3 hardware than most other dev, I was expecting them to be one of those dev to do amazing things with the system in its later life cycle, but so far, it seems like they are going many steps backward. Even a much smaller dev like sucker punch did a much better job with the first game and sequal.

Just a thought...
Do you think the main team moved on to work on the multiplat project? It just seems like a HUGE downgrade in graphics and features. I have been complaining about this for the past few months and as a fan I am very disappointed in Insomiac right now. When I first seen R3 it looked blurry but I thought it was just compression. To be honest I was ok with the graphics from R2 and LOVED the 8p co-op idea. R2 biggest problem was the boss fights they were horrible.
JOined the Human side. Humans need moreplayers I guess, they are losing !
EDIT: I usually never like these kind of games, but this one seems to be fun once things get rolling !
