[PS3] Resistance 3 [SPOILER ALERT - Contains R2 story discussion]

From the videos of the beta, the Seaside map looks quite a lot like SOCOM4 in the way surfaces look, I mean the shaders. Maybe they use similar techniques.

Insomniac revealed more in Comic-con:

Looks like a promo game to generate buzz. Still targeting the same audience. :)

How 'bout some Ratchet and Clank web games ? If done right, it should help boost sales of existing R&C titles.

JOined the Human side. Humans need moreplayers I guess, they are losing ! :)

EDIT: I usually never like these kind of games, but this one seems to be fun once things get rolling :) !

wonder the same, they drop the resolution, dropped the cool water tech, the cool glass physics, they must be doing something crazy for those compromises. So far the game looks nice but it looks like its mainly just due to the much better art direction. Does the game even have SSAO?

Well, I concur with you on that one. The game seems to have stagnated tech wise, not something to expect from an exclusive high profile title. i had thought that with the tighter focus and longer dev cycle of three years, we'll have a polished and technically really well optimised title in R3. The gfx look great, but as u say, because of the superb art direction, not really due to extra push into optimising and bringing in new tech. I wish, with those low res textures, they could have atleast squeezed in HDR, as it would have made a huge difference(look at HALO3).

The boat demo does look stellar on my PS3, no doubt, but the low res textures still stand out too much ! The soft look of the image doesn't bother me this time(it did a lot in R2 and RnC) as it blends with the atmospheric misty look of the boat environment, but I was expecting an improvement in the texture dept by the time it ships. We'll see if there is any, if I get into the beta.

I was wondering that maybe if they switch to FXAA, they can free up more memory and performance to bump up the resolution. Since its already has the sub HD + QAA blur, higher res + FXAA blur probably still give it a much better IQ than what they supposedly have now. Doubt that anything will change since according to their last podcast the game is nearly done. Curious how they are doing the 3d, 512X704? lol, nasty. Better not be those crap cardboard cut out 3d with 3 planes like some other games.....

I have to say, R3 is looking seriously outdated compared to what most other devs are pumping out of the PS3. They should simply rewrite a new engine after this and maybe hire some new technical lead to stay competitive. Man this is one game that would benefit greatly from KZ3's engine.

I concur. Said I'm disappointed tech wise is not even enough... the art seem a step beyond the previous chapter but the rest really :???: other exclusives put on the shame R3 in every aspect. Everything look a 'mess' even the choose of the colours, so unnatural & phopsphorescent (forgive me but I don't know a better synonymous, I'm not english); pratically ratchet & crank has ruined that engine cause its cartoonish palette...& I continue to said THE TRANSPARANCIES jeez the transparancies are fundamental for the special effects; did insomniac tell use a decent buffer isn't possible to 906x704p at 30 fps to this engine? :???: Time to put on the desk this shame...

Why are you guys making such a big deal out of it?Ok,its sub hd,its a bit blurry, but so what?Game looks quite atmospheric and fun, that is all that matters.

That's not all that matters*, especially from a developer with a pedigree of pushing hardware. It's as much Insomniac's fault for setting high standards previously that people's expectations aren't being met, hence the disappointment.

* That is, graphics count for something even if they aren't the-be-all-and-end-all. If other games can offer atmospheric fun and better quality visuals, in this competitive market those games will have an edge saleswise.

Yea,I said it the wrong way.Its not all that matters, but aside for lowered resolution its not exactly bad looking game.Artstyle got upped pretty good, lighting seems better, textures too. They added motion blur, smoke looks quite thick for PS3 game, there are alot of enemies and the playground is rather big.But if they don't like it and they expected miracles they have only themselves to blame for disappointment.Honestly, what to expect from Insomniac? They are stretching themselves to thin IMO.Making 3 games at once is never a great idea if you are eying for graphics awards(and they aren't) but some people here expected wonders where looking at it realistically, they shouldn't have.

BTW I'm kind of more disappointed in some other things, not about graphics.More about stiff animations, especially when shooting,it seems like 1st wave games this generation.

Well, I don't discuss the game quality but to insomniac I'd expected more about graphic tech... QAA, 960x704p, 30 fps & low buffer... what the hell going on here... just reminds to the old port from 360 to ps3...

Isn't frame rate uncapped?Like,up to 60fps indoors and drops outdoors?

I saw some footage from Comicon and it looked pretty good. Though it was off screen and I know that can hide some of the flaws.

Never understood why developers do this, if it's true.

R3 also got an extra year of dev time compare to the previous game, make everything even more disappointing to me when it comes to tech. Earlier of this gen, Insomniacs talked about the SPU usage and many things about the PS3 hardware than most other dev, I was expecting them to be one of those dev to do amazing things with the system in its later life cycle, but so far, it seems like they are going many steps backward. Even a much smaller dev like sucker punch did a much better job with the first game and sequal.

A lot much better. Infamous 2 imho is one of the best example to push the ps3 hardware avoid these weakness.

Just a thought...

Do you think the main team moved on to work on the multiplat project? It just seems like a HUGE downgrade in graphics and features. I have been complaining about this for the past few months and as a fan I am very disappointed in Insomiac right now. When I first seen R3 it looked blurry but I thought it was just compression. To be honest I was ok with the graphics from R2 and LOVED the 8p co-op idea. R2 biggest problem was the boss fights they were horrible.

This seems very probable. Their tech team has probably been busy with other stuff for quite some time. Also, the new 4-player Ratchet & Clank doesn't look very good and is only 30 fps as well.

I should give it a second try. Had to leave abruptly when I tried it in my hotel.
