[PS3] Resistance 3 [SPOILER ALERT - Contains R2 story discussion]

I have to say, R3 is looking seriously outdated compared to what most other devs are pumping out of the PS3. They should simply rewrite a new engine after this and maybe hire some new technical lead to stay competitive. Man this is one game that would benefit greatly from KZ3's engine.

I think this is their new engine. :)

It seems that they are focusing on something else rather than graphics fidelity.

Do you think the main team moved on to work on the multiplat project? It just seems like a HUGE downgrade in graphics and features. I have been complaining about this for the past few months and as a fan I am very disappointed in Insomiac right now. When I first seen R3 it looked blurry but I thought it was just compression. To be honest I was ok with the graphics from R2 and LOVED the 8p co-op idea. R2 biggest problem was the boss fights they were horrible.

I have no idea. But from their interviews, it seems that they are comparing R3 to R1 and R2. I suspect their goal was to look better than both, and play like a champ. They also believe that graphics should only be done on RSX as much as possible, and leave Cell for CPU tasks.

It's the gameplay that will keep me. Or I'll return to KZ3.

It's a shame we lose 8P co-op. 40P MP was indeed epic ! I hope the new MP can outdo RFOM.

I am very curious why Sony chose R3 to lead the Online Pass implementation, and also bundle it with the 3D monitor though. Very peculiar.

Anyone here got into the beta ?

I tried one round. The server crashed shortly after and has remained down since then. :-/
Insomniac knew about the problem and is working on a fix.

From what little I played, the Carbine feels like R2, but the combat feels more like RFOM. Each encounter takes about 2-3 seconds average. If someone sees me first, I could dodge and return fire in time so far.

When zoomed into iron sight, the surrounding is blurred. I don't quite like the blur effect. Gun fight is very fast paced. Pretty straight forward so far. Don't know whether and how the perks work (if they exist). I would like them to add more weight to the guns.

Will try more tomorrow !

I barely started playing and saw some weird effects too. Game seems a little rough like other Sony betas.

The take home point at this moment is: This is an old school shooter.

I think the biggest problem is the gun feel so far (for Carbine only since it's the only gun I tried). The rest should fall in place once the gameplay sinks in.
 
The R1 Carbine has far greater range, and was pinpoint accurate. The R2 Carbine needed less shots to make a kill. Circle strafing an opponent, and making the 11 headshots needed for a kill is what made the R1 Carbine great.

It's good to hear they are going back to old school shooting. Although I have a feeling they'll mess that with perks or killstreak rewards or something. Hopefully it comes with a hardcore mode without that kind of stuff.
 
Where are the weapon pick-ups? I hope they aren't repeating R2's mistake.

I'm in the closed beta. Insomniac is busy with the day one patch to fix the reported problems. And then merge them into the open beta. The August 4th open beta may still have some of these issues.

I'm learning the game. A little confused with the perks and upgrades. I thought they didn't exist. :(
So not so old school now. Fighting is definitely fast pace.

There is a weapon wheel but... Auger is now only a kill streak awarded weapon (Noooooooo... my precious !)

The shields are annoying and disrupting the flow of battle. There is supposed to be an EMP grenade to disable all the shields but I don't know how to get it yet. Haven't seen a weapon pick-up point yet.
 
When you kill somebody their weapon is left behind, that is the only weapon pickup I have seen.
