PS3 October Events

SONY is planning a PS3 event somewhere in NA, sometime in October, but that's all the information I could gather. I've searched google, but could only find posts on some boards by 'insiders' claiming such an event exists, but no further particulars were mentioned.

Is there an event? Yes. Kaz Hirai confirmed it in this Gamespot video interview in which he reaffirms that his NA market won't miss out, and that they "plan to do something towards the end of October". But is there any other information out there about this event?

Also, what is left for SONY to show? We've seen most games at TGS, and they've already dropped a pretty big bomb at TGS, so what's left? An announced price drop for the NA market as well? A launch bundle? Rumble? Any other games that haven't been shown yet, that could sneak in at launch? I also read somewhere that a Guerilla dev. said that they'll be showing Killzone PS3 sometime in October, but I highly doubt that. So, who/what do you think will be there? What would you like to see? Please post any additional information you may have.

Also, for the tech-heads, SONY will be present at the Digital Scarborough 06 event on October 14 to give insights on the PS3, and should provide more information on the elusive RSX.

Sorry if already been posted -- couldn't find any info. by searching...

I believe Sony's US conference is the 19th or 20th... isn't that right? I've heard both dates so I'm not sure which is correct.

Another October PS-related event is GDC in the UK, which starts... right now!

Hopefully something interesting will come out of it, Sony has a couple of key segments there. But info isn't usually as quick to come out of developer events, and I'm not sure what the press coverage will be.

GDC:
Hopefully we hear about Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm and Gears of War. Plus some other stuff, as well.

Yeah there's some article somewhere (recent) that seemed to indicate online would be discussed this month at one of these Euro events, but I forget which one it was.

Let me see if I can find the article... (I'm thinking GDC though)

EDIT: Ok yeah, here we go:

Sony talks online future at London events
10:15, Sep 13th by Michael French
Sony's ambitious plans to drive network-based content will be pitched to the games industry in two keynote speeches at the London Games Developer Conference and the London Games Summit.
Sony Worldwide Studio VPs Jamie Macdonald (also head of London Studio and Sony Cambridge, and interviewed in the latest issue of Develop, available here) and Michael Denny will discuss what digital distribution means for developers and the rest of the games industry during the two London Games Festival conferences.

Macdonald will talk about the move from a "package-centric world to a network-centric future" at a keynote during the London Games Festival, which takes place October 2nd to 4th.

Meanwhile Denny will open the London Games Summit, with takes place October 4th to 5th, with a further look at the area of digital distribution, promising to look areas such as consumer choice and demands, content and community creation, and economic elements...

...doesn't seem like *the* online info we may have had in mind, but I'm still hopeful between GDC and the US event, the details will arise.

Tim Sweeney did praise Sony's online plans for being "enlightened" recently. That's one of the few positive things I have hears about their plans.

Although, Mr. Price working on Resistance did also mentioned extensive online support. And not just match making and dedicated servers but a stats and ranking database for online matches etc kind of like BF2.

I just hope we will see something beside Arena fight demo...

Oh? Are you a developer that will be in attendence? ;)

Understand the context of the event, such that you are on the proper side of any ensuing FUD.

GDC stands for Game Developers Conference.

Look up past stills, presentations, and footage of these events to see the sort of demonstrations that are on offer. It's not an E3, trying to 'impress the masses' sort of a thing...

DeanoC just said it's a session on their combat system, so... expect relevent information on said combat system - and that's it!

:) Offcourse that I dont expect live coverage, and hundreds of teenage fans in there. I just say that they will talk for one hour, so some new info/pics is bound to surface.
So far they didnt show massive combat, and they will maybe show some boss batles.

there is no edit button, so:

Wow! Didn't know about this one! Although its for Developers, the last GDC still provided some interesting information regarding gameplay and stuff, so hopefully there'll still be something there for the masses to enjoy!

Our combat team are giving a presentation at GDCE on how our combat system was built.
Cool. Any videos that'll be shown that you may be able to share with us on the boards?

October 19th is the date I'm hearing as well for the october event. But yeah, as for GDC, I hope somebody brings a good camera, last time we only got bits and peices here and there with low quality pictures and video. :/

Is any significant detail going to be available to the public?
Its not NDA'ed so people can say whatever they like... I'm not gonna be there this year but i've seen the presentation, its interesting if you want to know how the mechanics of it work.

Don't expect any PR stuff tho, its for game developers so its how to make it not a marketting tool.

Sony has confirmed it is holding a "Gamer's Day" on October 19th, in San Francisco, to show off a full range off PlayStation 3 games.

For members of the press who didn't get a chance to go hands-on with the PS3 at this year's Tokyo Game Show, or for those who simply want more uninterrupted time with the console, Sony will be giving a behind-the-curtain peak at the system's launch lineup on Thursday, October 19th in San Francisco.

It will likely represent the last big chance for substantative hands-on time with the console before its November 17th launch in the US.

thx to TheProfessor @ gaf for the link.

For members of the press...
Heh. I think this is because some of Sony's launch games were not meant for the Japanese market so they're trying to show them in a more appropriate territory.

I just wonder what kind of news about launch plans they'll share.
