A recent thread has me wondering. For those buying the PS3 in the initial launch period, that is from launch until Christmas, which PS3 SKU are you most likely to buy and what territory do you belong to? I would assume each SCE division is now likely polling their distributors/retailers to determine SKU production and allocation, and I'm curious as to what our small sample group's demand is. For those that also care to comment, please share why you want one SKU over another, if the SKU you're most likely to buy is the one your actually most interested in, and if you're buying the Premium(?) SKU which features does it have that you plan on using now and which (if any) are you planning to use for the future. For those in Europe, when answering the poll please go on the assumption that both SKUs will be available at launch. I'm looking for what you would buy if you were buying at launch and had a choice. Personally, I will only buy the Premium. For now, I plan to make use of the everything it offers except for HDMI, and plan to make use of HDMI in the next couple of years. However, I have heard the argument, from several different people, that they plan on buying the base model not because of pricing, but because they want to get as many non-HDMI equipped Blu-Ray players out on the market to try and further deter studios from implementing the HDCP flag. The idea being that the more users they would lose by implementing it, the less likely they are to implement it. Interesting approach, in my opinion. On a side note, I'm also really hoping it comes with a 1 year (at least) warranty like the slim line PS2 does.

Thank you for your participation.

I am in Europe and I’m getting the 60 GB SKU , because I can afford it and I want a bigger HDD.

I'm in europe too, and I'm getting the 60GB PS3 also, because of a slew of reasons including me wanting the extra features, enjoying the better looks of that unit, and finally, the lack of the 20GB version in my country, at least at launch. I don't think it's even possible to pre-order anything other than the 60GB version...

You should have also added the demand that whoever voted 20gig identify themselves and offer their excuses :devilish:

60gb because its closer to the original PS3 shown at E3 05..."which is the one that I will order once Sony starts its built to order program". I'm in North America.

599 euro version.

if it wasnt for the resell value i would maybe consider the 499 version

but as far as I can tell, you wont get to buy one at launch in europe i think

20GB version... no need for any of the features. If I need a bigger HDD I'll buy a 100GB+ at a later date but I doubt I'd use more space than that anyway. Card reader? I have one already, wifi? I don't care. HDMI? If I need to watch blueray movies @ 1080p in 2011 I'll buy a stand alone player at that point.

sure 60GB
I am in Asia
l like the bigger HDD and also the HDMI
because i plan to get a new TV set with HDMI input
i got PSP too, so WIFI is necessary too~

20GB, NA

Reasoning: I dont have an hdmi receiver and I am sure as hell NOT going to use my TV speakers for sound, so I would need the optical out to my receiver anyway.
HDMI switches are pretty cheap, I have a 2x1 which is currently used by my comcast hdtv/pvr box and my Toshiba HD DVD, so I could buy a 5x1 for not much money, but I don't see the need yet, my tv is not hdmi v1.3, and component (pre-hdmi 1.3) still produces better color to my eyes.

HDD space, assuming I will be able to do what I do with the 360 and use my PC as a storage medium then I will take my 600GBs over the 60GB and save myself $100. This goes for the card reader as well, I can already share my photos from my Mac with the 360, I would assume that I will be able to stream them to the PS3 as well.

Wireless: I currently have my D-Link gigabit wireless router next to my vonage, 360, HD A1, all of them are next to the TV, and I run CAT 6 to my intel iMac, so I wil put the PS3 next to the tv and slap it on the gigabit. Streaming HD over wireless, at least for the 360, equals "Network Congestion", wired equals never a glitch. My streamed HD is all MPEG-2.

Maybe someone can tell me my they think they "need" the 60GB, are 4 hidden cables (YPbPr + optical out) vs 2 that much of a deal breaker (assuming you don't plan on using your tv speakers or do not have an hdmi receiver)

All in all, by the time I buy another tv and sound system that supports HDMI 1.3, we will probably be on the second price drop, at which point I could always trade in the original and get another one, and probably with a larger hdd.

EDIT: I also forgot that there are still many games that I want this holiday for the 360 which may put a dent in overall cash flow as well. I don't want to tell my wife, "Hey I just spent $249 on the Wii, $600 on the PS3, and $200 on 360 games", notice in that scenario that I hadn't even bought a game for the other systems, this is going to be an expensive year.

I guess the only reason I am getting the 60GB version is that chrome trim. Plus I don't think I could live with the burden of shame from having to tell people I have the gimped 20GB version.

HDMI, Wifi, card readers. I could probably contrive some use for them in my apartment. But I am not planning to use them initially. Though I'm sure opportunities will arise down the line for them eventually.
