Project Offset

that's odd it looks fine in FF for me.

I'll by a shirt when there's an actual name for the game OR it would be really sweet looking with one of the concept images on the back of the T. I'd pay $25-30.

Project Offset announces first licencee

Firstly, apologies for the thread resurrection.

While checking out the Project Offset site for new developments, I noticed that on 13th February, 2006 the developers announced what appears to be their first licencee of the offset engine.

Red 5 Studios, founded by ex-Blizzard veterans, have licenced the offset engine for an upcoming MMO title and will be showcasing the offset engine at next month's (March 20th - 24th, 2006) Game Developer's Conference.

With the Offset development team growing from 3 to 19 members and the first licencee now confirmed, hopefully the engine will gain some traction in the seemingly UE3 dominated next-gen landscape. Looking forward to the footage that will hopefully emerge from GDC!

P.S.: The only implication of the "64-bit" thing is that the GPU default is actually FP16 everywhere, and it doesn't run on any non-SM2.0. hardware.

hmm im probably wrong, but isnt their 64-bit refers to FP16 blending? i mean FP16 is 16 bit`s per component, 64 in total no?

Yup.

Well, I took it to mean FP16 up to and including the framebuffers, in which case it'd be only SM3 hardware. But that would mean the game is either very far away or the creators are willing to sacrifice what for the next few years should still be a large part of their potential customers.

In case you guy's haven't seen the new tech demo on their site and G4 interview, *sigh* they're looking @ 2-3 years out for an actual release. Maybe they can get some quick backing and do well. So, much buzz is about.

It's interesting to know that the G4 demo is running on their "Ultimate PC" w/e that is. Guessing SLI'd 7800 GTX's?

ok wasn't sure if it was GPU or CPU related.

Yeah the marketing sceme get's to us non-technical kids. :D

even if it was CPU related you'd have no problem with 64bit floating point. FPU is 64bits, actually 64bit on SSE2 and 80bits for the good old x87.. you could put a 287 along a 286 processor, or a 8087 with a 8088/8086 : 16bit main CPU and 80bit FPU :)
the 32bit-ness or 64bit-ness of a CPU refers to its integer and memory adressing abitilies (pointers, which are integers).

(and um, yes FP16 is 16bit FP..)

well they still dont have any major source on funding, and they still are only 3 people, with only 1 coder. they had an interview in a TV show about a year ago, saying their game wont be out for 2-3 years. if this project will be picked up by a publisher and will be eventuatly finished, i dont think it would be released before Q4-Q3 2007. so they shouldnt have a big problem by then, if BF2 didnt mind cuting all the none DX8.1 cards, i dont see a big problem with a SM3.0 only game, hitting the shelves in 16-18 months at best.

Not anymore, according to their website:

The left is particularly beautiful in my opinion. The bloom is too exagerated for my taste, but the quality of the image is quite nice.

And overall, I've found the other media they have on their site very impressive.

I've been drooling for Offset for quite a while now...

Where's the bloom in that last left screenshot? Either my eyes have gone bad or that's true HDR. Finally a game scene where all the surfaces haven't that idiotic plastic shiny shader crap smeered all over it heh. As for the second one is that depth of field there for the background?

I have been in love with this game's art direction since the start. I have generic fantasy settings, but they guys are making something actually original even if it involves dragons and dwarves!:)
