Pre-PS2 launch

When PS2 was unveiled there were some games showed like TTT, The Bouncer, dropship(?) and The Getaway. The difference between this first footage of these games and the actual games was quite 'radical'. :)
Almost everything was fake or scrapped due deadlines.

Does someone still has the renders of Dropship, the getaway and movie footage of TTT and The bouncer when they were presented to the press? Or does someone knows the location of a website that contains these things?

I just want to see the differences between the 'planned' and 'actual' games :)

WELL as far as i can remember, they showed FMV from The Bouncer so that's gone.
Dropship actually lived up to the expectations, at least graphically. it is one hell of a graphical engine.
TTT... cant remember what they showed, still the final game looked pretty amazing. i do remember that the "tech demos" based on Tekken looked like total ass compared to TTT.
The Getaway.. they NEVER showed footage until shortly before the game was released. of course the screens released in the years before were mock-ups, but aint they all? still, The Getaway does look amazing in progressive-scan, and pretty similar to those screenshots sometimes. one of the cleanest looking games on PS2. and the interiors are top-notch. shame for everything else

I need the mock-ups and those tech-demo's which sony described as in-game or 'possible on PS2' ;)

This has been covered here before, but the prerelease shots of TTT looked indentical with the actual game.

Where can I find it then?

Why not just look on google? You'll find everything you want in a fraction of the time.

The Tekken demo Sony showed looked like absolute ass compared to the final TTT.

The FF8 fmv was just exactly that, a real time demo, Sony never claimed it to from in game.

You had this facial animation

Which we see the faces in SH3 is actually better than, so no BS there.

The bouncer? This picture, which was in game(jaggies). The Bouncer continues to remain one of the best looking games on the system, and I don't even know how it holds that record.

You had other numerous demos, a duck in a sink, particle demo's. All of which just demo's.

GT2000 you also had, which underwent a HUGE graphical jump from what was showed off and became GT3.

I'm an Insider :) Some guy over the net pays for it though for me, Haven't talked to him in a while.

Well anyway, just delete your cookies and temporary internet files and you can open 5 more. Just keep doing it.

Almost all those early demos and concept pics ended up looking significantly worse, compared to their respective games, or the games that we are seeing today.

Demos looked impressive back then, but when I took a look at them recently, I was surprised how bleh they were. IGN has some of the videos, but I lost the links again.

Only exception I can think of was the Getaway which was definitely a lot more impressive looking in those concept screens compared to the actual game.

I don't think the "delete your cookies" trick works anymore, IGN has got increasingly good at disguising them. :?

Ah them bastards must have changed it. I haven't had to use it for a long time.

Its kinda disappointing that the real time cutscene models in The Bouncer ended up being leagues better than those in FF X :( The hair in FF X was so.. :?

Funny, they had everything on the site free for years...

And suddenly they want you to pay for it, even the information that was once free. Not to mention, the IGN Insider service which you pay for sucks. Downloads used to be 180K for the movies and now they are at a garbage 40ish, there are many errors everywhere and not to mention ad's everywhere.

IGN is a huge site requiring huge amounts of bandwidth....free sites are becoming less and less abundant as companies who once tried to make profits out of banner ads are now backing out of funding since nobody clicks those annoying links anyway. Gamespot wen tthe same way for the same reason.

Besides, some of the boards there are filled with fantastic posters.

IGN was always a huge site with gigantic bandwidth needs.

Having a pay service I can understand, having it suck and fall through the floor which is happening now(I have insider) is just retarded.

When IGN was FREE it was better than it is now, how sad.

Well, I respect your opinion, but that's what it is.....an opinion. I love the messageboards there enough to believe that the 20 USD is worth the price. I think the content is fine, and the interaction with the writers and people on the messageboard is fantastic (Jeremy Dunham in particular).

Nontheless, this is going a tad bit off topic.

I'll just recommend that people who believe that the tech demo's "cheated" people into believing that the PS2 could do things that it really can't should really take a look at the videos again. PS2 games have surpassed what was shown... memory does strange things. I remember when I thought the original Gran Turismo was close to photorealistic.
