Pre-order X800 Pro - ?NDA? - 8 extreme / 12 normal PS pipes

g__day

Regular
Is this called how to break an NDA? So the R420 Pro has 8 extreme PS pipe and 12 normal pipes (I read this as 8 pipe that can do multiple ops and 4 that can do a simpler set of ops - guess its all the same fp precision?_

How do folk anaylse this?

Isn't this a part of SM3.0? The "unlimited instructions" bit? :?:

Uhm, is it 8 of the 12 pipes are "extreme" or is it 12 normal pipes and an addition 8 "extreme" ones making it 20 total?!?!

Bugger, missed that post by an hour. But this topic is the 8/12 pixel pipeline architecture decision with said 6 gigapixels/second fill rate in full precision (fp24 or fp32?) six programmable vertex shader pipelines, capable of up to 7000 million vertices per second and an overall capability of over 140 million floating point operations per second. The other topic is labelled the desire to pre-order said card. This one is discussing its announced pipeline architecture :)

For that price, better be faster than 6800 Ultra

Judging by that quote, I'd imagine it's actually the same or a bit slower, since the 6800U seems to be pretty much double the performance of a 9800XT.

Under what? 2D?

Obivously 8 of the 12 pipelines are either more feature rich, can work on more quads or pixels and/or can co-issue multiple instructions than the other 4 normal pipelines.

Pretty clear to me now... 8 of the pipelines can extreme snowboard, while the other 4 pipes are left to be the judges...

The second I hit post, I knew I'd regret it :) Ok, it's not double to perfomance all the time, but there are quite a few cases where it is, at least in the reviews I've read. Either way, the 9800XT is what, at least 10-20% faster than the 9800Pro? Knock 10-20% off the 9800XT scores in the 6800U reviews, and it's pretty much double all the time.

Of course, I'm probably reading to much into "up to 2x perf over 9800pro" :)

If that is the case howerver, then it does look like the 800XT will be faster than the 6800U if the 800Pro is pretty equal with the 6800U.

I would guess that 8 of the pipelines are capable of dual-issue, so one of the quads will get processed slower than the other 2.

To me this implies the X800 XT will be 8 extreme and 8 normal pixel pipelines. As Dave stated it has 8 uber pipelines a while ago.

Sounds logical. But will we be seeing benchmarks for both the Pro and the XT on Tuesday? Sounds that way, since we've been told reviewers already have the XT, and they must have the Pro also if it's going on sale in a week. They'll be up all weekend benching and testing these features....and who still feels envious of those poor SOB reviewers? ;)
