Where was this posted? I saw your thread with the Carmack interview but AFAICS Carmack didn't mention Kyro once. What did he say to you about Kyro?
 
What are the shadow volume triangles like in FableMark? I'm not convinced that accessing the stencil buffer is necessarily going to be a limitation in Doom 3. Each shadow volume itself will have a lot of polygons so the setup engine might well be the limiting factor. Some of the shadow volume demos I've seen have a tremendous amount of long skinny triangles that have to be clipped by the hardware.
