That 450W is overkill with those amperages, you don't need the 500W version, let alone the 600W.

I'd just like to add I'm using a cheap 500watt allied psu and it's working fine with my winchester 3200@ 2400mhz and 7800GT @ 500/1200
But that may not be surprising given this system should only pull about 200 watts judging by techreport's power measurements.

Sorry for mooching the thread, but I had a related question:

If I had a 1000W power supply that was 80% efficient, would it dissipate 200W with nothing plugged into it? Or would it only dissipate that ~200W under full load?

I think this bears somewhat on the 'can you overspec your PS' question and be burning power for no good reason.
