“If you take one thing away from this conference, then it must be that Perfect Dark Zero will be to 360 what Halo was to the original Xbox,â€￾ said Microsoft this week as it revealed its Xbox 360 retail launch plans.

The Redmond giant gave 329 Gamestation store staff exclusive insights into its plans for the console's launch this week, revealing that marketing for Perfect Dark Zero begins on October 4th, nearly two months before the console itself goes on sale. The campaign is huge, on a par with the amount spent on Halo 2 even though the installed base is much smaller.

I hope it pans out, because the X360 really needs a cornerstone title to build around. If PDZ is as good as Halo or Halo 2 (whichever you like more), it will go a very long way in making the launch successful. As much as I may like them, the PGR3's and GR3's of the world are not system defining titles. They are very desirable sort of 2nd tier games, but nothing more.

It does seem RARE is going to deliver a great game. Perfect Dark will provide a center of gravity for the system. We'll be able to judge as soon as X05 roll around on the graphics, but the positive impressions people are having is encouraging.

From someone that claimed to attend a Gamestation conference in the UK.

So after messing around with media centre and the 360 dashboard for a half hour we got shown some promo footage of games like PGR3 and Gears Of War, nothing we haven't all seen already, but then microsoft play the killer card, PLAYABLE CODE of Perfect Dark Zero!

OH MY GOD!! And I do apologise for going rabid at this point in the post, but it's so awesome, screenshots *CANNOT* do this game any justice, it was still a little rough around the edges and I noticed several glitches through my 2 or 3 minutes hands on, but that's completely insignificant when you're dribbling over realistic oil effects on the floor of a car park or fully bump-mapped textures on the surface of a leaf! The lighting effects are second to none, bloom and HDR light effects galore and yes there are some lens flares in there too but they're so well implemented!

Then the pad was torn away from me and I was sent on my way to the Ubi presentation which I've already talked about... all I could do was gibber at the people waiting outside about the particle effects and the threat detector, you should have seen them clammoring to the front to try and have the 1st go!

Has it been confirmed Ghost Recon is delayed until early next year?

BTW

Microsoft confirms online co-op and weapons, plus release date and status report news

IGN also learned that Perfect Dark Zero is finally looking much, much better. We've heard a new batch of screenshots show off the game in a different light than at E3, with great texture work, sharp surfaces, and highly polished levels. Lastly, we've learned that Perfect Dark Zero is not concretely set to launch day and date with Xbox 360. In other words, it's doubtful as a day one launch title. Expect to see it in 2005, and most probably before Christmas, but not day one.

BTW the EGM also have a article about it, and there are scans on the net...
Edit: But with bad news, only 32 players for now, because of not having enough time to test, but possble there is a patch later.

New fotos too, personages still look bad IMO, but environment look nice.

Kill TV may not make the launch too.

Too bad

They should finish the game then launch it :devilish: :devilish:

I know someone who was there and while he will vouch for how impressive PDZ was, he did state that it was playable only by the MS reps.

The screens are very impressive. its weird i think of ATI cards as having high color saturation and keying. Every x360 title seems to relish in throwing extraordniary amounts of color on the screen makingthem more cartoony and less realistic than the titles Sony has shown... maybe its just the genres chosen or the art styles of the selected games shown though.

As much as I liked the info/shots, the rules are clear:

No posting scans.
No linking to scans.

If B3D was a magazine you would not like it if people were freely distributing their exclusive content. That would hurt B3D and the great people who work there. Same applies to other companies. Thanks for your time, that is all. :D

Oh come on!

You linked to a site that has explicit scans. The only new content where "You can see just how far it's come" is the recent scans.

The mods have asked not to do this before in regards to this very site.

PDZ has alternate fire style modes also! If a gun doesn't have a scope, you can sacrifice player movement speed in exchange for more accuracy with your shots! Your guns postion changes postion on screen to reflect you aiming with it. AWESOME!

All of the gameplay enhancement like the 3rd person wall cling, 3rd person dodge roll, shock damage, armor pentration and damage, and now alternate fire accuracy modes really appeals to me.

I'm going down to my local game store and pre-order this asap.

Maybe I'm not seeing what's new here, but in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark 1 your gun moved as you aimed around, and in Perfect Dark you could kneel to get more steady aim.

I don't think he did anything wrong by linking that site, and let's leave the moderation to those who are moderators...

The way I read it in the edge article is that you exchange movement speed for a more accurate shot. Sort of like moving at a tacticle combat speed. To me this would be another attemp to tone down the power of snipers on maps. Where if your gun doesn't have a scope and he's a long range, you can increases your chances of hitting the sniper, while still be able to move around. Kneeling down to gain accuracy against a person with a sniper rifle would make you an easy target.

The other thing being done to tone down the power of snipers is the 3rd person wall cling. Where you can put your weapon crosshairs on a target and roll off the wall to perform a snap shot, then roll back onto the wall.

Maybe I'm understanding the gameplay wrong...we'll know soon though.

I'm still waiting to be impressed. Amazing that they can get a Xbox port to looks as good as Kameo does, but they can't make their biggest budgeted game to look anywhere near as good.
