Overclockers get to test R520?

More ram alone wouldnt make the score go up, with such low settings. Only in a high res, with lots of AA/AF would more ram matter for 01. IMO anyways.

hmmmm, I thought video memory didn't affect 3DMark01 that much. Perhaps it runs at different speeds?

Doesn't make much sense to me. Releasing a 512mb x800 at this point in time(assuming r520 is only 2-3month away) seems like a waste of resources and it will probably cost so much more than a 256mb x800 but with very litte if any gain in performance.

edit:

Just saw that zardon posted that his unannounced card is not a current one just with 512mb ram but he also mentioned that you probably will see a 512mb card at the dallas LAN

...40k seems about right for a sample running at or a little under target clocks.

add: Assuming it has 16 pipes, that is.

The Inq seem to think this is a 512MB R480. Hmm.
The amount of memory shouldn't make a spitload of difference on 3dm2k1se without AA/AF, unless it is faster memory....

Zardon said it wasn't overclocked, but what if the memory speed is just insanely high? In moving to more memory could ATi be moving to a new type?

3dm2k1se does love faster GPU memory speeds....

If we're wrong, we'll just have to eat our GPUs.

It seems he made a bet on his lunch money too.

Hey wait a minute! Is he reading this forums? (Where is the wave hand emoticon?) ;)

Yeah, he's been a longtime lurker...but I don't think I've ever seen him post up.

Not a 512 MB card. Feels good. That would've been boring.
Kewl beans, this is almost intriguing me enough to just break down and ask Zardon privately just what the heck it is.

If it's an R520, I know what I'm getting for my birthday. 8)

Why would it need to be anything to do with ATI? AFAIK NVIDIA are a little further down the line with the next high end chip than ATI are.

Guys, R520 hype this early would only damage X850XT/PE sales, unless ATI used R480 as a smokescreen and never intended on manufacturing it in volume. Seems unlikely.

I'm going with an AMR implementation of R480, with R520 in the June timeframe.

Errr, do you think NVDA would allow DH (where Terry Makedon is almost part of the furniture) to tinker with any of their unreleased hardware? Oh, and you certainly haven't let on about NVDA being further down the line before. Care to elaborate?

"Yes."

Well you see you are sucked into the ATI hype. I never said in the first post the GFX in the test rig was ATI. everyone just assumes it is an ATI card(s) because we are "ATI friendly" here and there is a "red" tinge to the blurring. I cannot post information on the setup we are testing but there is more unreleased hardware than just the GFX card involved within that test system.

Much easier to guess after that.. :)

We don't know. We have to wait and see....as usual

Anyway i get new hardware tomorrow. I finally get my hands on a gf6800GT for a couple of days for testing :p

Errr, do you remember when DriverHeaven became nVidiaHeaven for a day? Zardon is on good terms with nVidia too.

I don't know - I'd rather imagine NVDA plugging someone like Anand into their prototype hardware. Besides which I wouldn't expect NVDA to be the one to instigate the hype of new high-end hardware, considering they're perceived to be in the driver's seat with the 6600/6800GT and SLI. This smacks of an ATI AMR Xpress/X850 setup to me, not to mention that the temporal relationship with a secret unveiling at ATI's Dallas LAN event is more than mere coincidence.

Wasn't that April Phools day though? Somehow I would think it would be difficult walking the tightrope between those two companies. :?

Oh please, if you don't stop calling nVidia with its nasdaq name in completely non nasdaq related circumstances like this... well I'm just gonna call Ati with a letter T

you say NVDA, I say T. deal?

I've been called many things before but never furniture....
