It looks really nice. Can't wait to see battery life and how it performs. I am still waiting for zen5/rdna 4 however , hopefully that gets us over the hump in performance

Practically speaking there's basically no way these smaller players can compete with Asus much less Valve (due to ancillary revenue) from a value perspective. They've got to target and market niche's and hope that's enticing enough for people to pay a large premium for them.

As an aside I wonder if this means they are sourcing the same display as the RoG Ally. Which would mean the Ally's display isn't bespoke and exclusive. Ball would then be in Valve's court to rather easily solve the display disparity as long as they aren't for some reason intent on 16:10.

Well against Valve they can iterate much faster. If you look at aya it seems like they are reusing designs and parts and just putting in the newest version of the amd apu. so even if they are more expensvie you can always get the top of the line apu. It's not a huge gain now but if the next generation of amd apu rolls out and there isn't a steam deck 2 then the steam deck 1 will look really lacking compared to the new handhelds with the new apu.

For Asus well they have a negative reputation right now in the industry

how does that even work ?

as shown in the video you shared some days ago, as long as you have a device with a OcuLink port, you can get the max performance of the eGPU. Afaik, the ONEXFLY doesn't have one, but you can get a GPD G1 dock station.

This guy doesn't like it, since it is a very niche product. Even if it is niche it works well for what it intends to do, which is the point, so it's not totally useless.

A niche product, without a doubt, but in a few years if you manage to reduce the cost and increase the performance, maybe something good will come out

few years ago Meta was researching such a solution for a standalone headset, connected to an external processing box.
Wee could imagine next gen consoles pro versions using similar added box.
