I would think we are looking at a tegra 3 derivative, which running on something with ui priority and sans ui overskin bloat means it will fly like a butterfly and sting like bee
Don't buy the nexus...
Nexus devices dont have UI skins or any bloatware installed
Not to mention he could just get an iPad if he wanted smoothness. For the same price, you get a much better screen and a much bigger ecosystem. Windows RT is just as locked down and can only download Metro apps. So it will be another Windows Phone until developers start porting their apps to the Metro store. Its the X86 version that can run legacy apps and is "open"
Yes but it runs android which is now very very good, but will never be completely smooth.
The new ipod screen is very nice indeed, but ios will be even more limited than w8 metro...it lacks the processing power for the screen resolution as some games run better for ipad 2 so I hear.
Have there been concrete examples of the iPad 3 being noticeably slower than an iPad 2 in games? If so, it kinda undermines my position, which is that GPU perf is already high enough in tablets for pretty much all usage as is.Jubei said:uhm if iOS is limited because iPad 3 games lack some lighting and particle effects, what does that say of W8 RT wich doesnt even have any of these games?

I have yet to see any slowness on mine, but then there aren't any graphics intensive games installed. (Draw Something, Angry Fowl, some dumb karaoke game that tweenage girls seem to like etc.)
Yes apps being a good point, but it's only the top 100 apps that make the difference, the fact wp8 will also run nearly the same apps which will be an incentive, of course that's assuming both sell well...which with obvious well entrenched competition is not guaranteed...its 50/50 for me, if Microsoft can't make this take off then there out permanently in my opinion.
Where are you getting prices from??
However your price range of $199 for a tegra 3 nexus tablet looks a tad optimistic
Again we can only go on what is being banded about, I think it's safe to assume there the same..or at least very minimal effort to port from one to the other due to the same kernel.
You logic makes sense with regards to transformer prime comparisons, also the build of it looks to be high end plus quite expensive...so it isn't going to be the cheapest
However your price range of $199 for a tegra 3 nexus tablet looks a tad optimistic, unless that was a typo?? It would take all of that just to manufacturer the thing and even then I doubt Google would want to upset lots partners by undercutting them all...
I'm kinda disappointed they didn't put a 1080p screen on the windows rt .. something like a lcd 2 ips panel found on the one x would be amazing don't you think?
It will take minimal effort to make X86 Metro app to run on Win8 RT. But all of the old classic legacy apps have to be ported over to Metro first. So reality is that Win RT has like 10 apps right now and will be an underdog until all the old legacy apps get ported
I might be wrong on the 199 but Asus was planning a 249 dollar tablet themselves even before Google stepped in. Given that they want to destroy Kindle Fire, i suspect the sweet spot is 199
BTW Windows Phone 8 conference is happening right now
For its iPhone 4S review, Anandtech created its own benchmark across different platforms by compiling Unreal engine. I wish they continued to do so for later reviews, but they didn't. It would be great to compare iPad 2 vs iPad 3 @ 10x7 vs iPad 3 @ native vs Tegra etc.Ike Turner said:THe iPad 3 is lower than the iPad 2 only when games are being rendered at the screens native resolution which is just too much for the GPU in the A5X to handle. At the same res both Pad's perform the same..
